38 gallon tall

KUDA

How many horses can I keep in here? I was planning on H. Kelloggi or H. Kuda. It is connected to a wet/dry filter and has about a 3 inch sad bed. Would I be able to put 4? How bout any other fish, such as firefish. Could I put a firefish and a bangaii cardinal in there?, because I wanted something to swim toward the top of the tank. I'm not planning on putting fish in until summer but the tank has been set up for more than a month. The tank has 30 lbs of live rock.

A couple pair of kuda would be cool. Kelloggi get rather big for a 38g IMO. The firefish and cardinal are also fine.

I agree with pledosophy, sounds fine. Not to many people use wet-dry's any more. They don't seem to add a lot of value in terms of filtration. You would be better served to fill it with water and turn it into a refugium. JMO

Thanks. What was a wet dry filter supposed to do? It came with the tank when i bought it. The filter can easily be turned into a full refugium if thats what would be best.

It was originally used to drive the nitrogen cycle converting amonia and nitrite, which are both toxic in small concentrations, to nitrate.

This is much more effectively accomplished using live sand and rock and the invertibrates associated with them. The big advantage of rock and sand is that it also contains bacteria that break down nitrates.

The value of a refugium is:

1. generates live food for your horses impriving their health

2. gives you a place to grow macro algae which is a good way to remove nitrogen and phosphate from your system.
