3ft BB ULNS Tank

The real problem is Jack and his guys keep poo pooing my fish selections lol. So far i'm not allowed to have a Sohal tang, every angel fish i like and who knows what else that looks cool :(
I know you'd pinch my acro goodies if you could talk Jack around......... i keep reminding him what a pain it is at the airport....traffic, paperwork, parking.....what a nightmare Jack. :smokin:

Why not a sohal in the new tank?? Angels can be a risk, I had one turn bad a few years back and he took a bit of catching too

Jack told me he didn't mind doing the airport run for me when I spoke to him the other day :lolspin:

Hey Scott, first off I'm sorry to hear about spud:sad:. A new tank hey, I look forward to seeing it:bounce1:. Any pics of the tank? I'd like to see some:D. Also what salt are you using on this tank and your cool cube(like the name?)?

Hi mate
I was sad about spud also mate :( yes a new tank is in the pipeline, orders have been placed but it will take a little while before things start happening.

I'll get some pics over the next few days and post them up for you :)

Are you planning on getting another angle? What are the dimensions of the new tank going to be? I look forward to the pics:). What salt are you using by the way?

Tank will be 1100x600x500 12mm rimless with 8x39w ATI powermodule. I'll be also running the Fauna Marin system

Sorry I forgot to answer the salt question .... I'm using Red Sea blue bucket mate :)

Those are nice specs! And a great light(I'm already jealous:lol: )

Haha lol, I thought I'd have to put the salt question in bold for you to answer it:lol:. Ok. I'm switching to salt now (no more natural salt water, its more trouble than its worth) I'm planning on using the Red Sea salts as well, the coral pro one. It's a bit more expensive than the regular one but because I'm not dosing anything I figure it would be worth it for the extra minerals.

Morning Scotty (it is morning in the UK),

Are you going to use your existing skimmer in your new tank? I am currently debating if I should be getting a different skimmer for my 65 (US) gallon tank. I am increasingly getting suspicious of my present skimmer, BM NAC 6a, for being the root cause of my ongoing cyano problem. I think its neck is too big for my size of tank and thus does not sufficiently remove nutrients before they become problem.

I looked at Biggle's current tank (or to say it more accurately his old one). He uses Deltec 1455, which is way oversize. I am thinking of getting Deltec 1350 instead.

What is your opinion?

Thanks

Bulent

Hi Bulent

At the moment I'm actually thinking of upgrading my vertex omega 150 to a Bubble King double cone 180. I wasn't overly happy with the performance of the omega which is my main reason but I've always been a believer in chosing a skimmer 1/3 above the size of the system. My new setup will be about 370L and the double cone 180 is rated for 500L
It's the method I used in my 4x4 so I'm hoping my theory is works with this tank also

Thanks Scotty. So, your calculations are based on manufacturer's ratings as opposed to air ratings at venturi.

Can you please be more specific about why you felt that your Vertex Omage did not work? What symptoms led you to arrive at this conclusion? For example, did you not get consistent foam head or despite consistent skimming, etc.?

I just go off of the manufacturer rating with skimmers, I've always only used the decent brand skimmer like your bubble king or vertex and I've found they actually underrate their skimmers.
This omega has just really disappointed me, the skimmate is always very inconsistent and you try to dial it in just that fraction more and it goes completely out of tune again, I know my BK supermarin on my 4x4 is a lot bigger skimmer but I can tune it extremely well to suit if I need some extra nutrient taken out or left in and that is a very handy thing to have.
In the case where a couple of days ago I put new rowaphos in the system and I know it's going to take the po4 out a little quicker I dial the skimmer back to compensate for that.:D

Thanks. I have read that some owners of Vertex Omega 150 felt that its pump was too powerful for the actual skimmer, thus not being "balanced".

I cannot afford a Bubble King skimmer. I will probably gofer either Deltec 1350 or the new Tunze 9012. Good luck with your upgrade.

Quick update in progression which is absolutely nothing :lolspin: but the dimensions of the tank have changed along with some equipment.

Tank will now be 1300x600x500
Lighting will now be a 10x54w ATI powermodule
Skimmer will now be Bubble King Double Cone 180
And will now be running 4 Tunze 6095

I like the new tank dims love me some rimless tank..can't wait to see it up and running..

Hi Dan

Tank will be a while in the making mate, got some new equipment to pay for but I have pulled the old 3ft down and is now up for sale to help fund the project :)
