4' X 4' tank

Thanks everyone. I have the PVC being shipped from flexpvc.com (the order cost $200:eek1: ) and I will have it next Thursday without any storms holding up shipping. I am going to fill the tank when the plumbing is done. I will post pics of the everything in 10 days.

did you make some of that eggcrate removeable? Gonna need to siphon out detritus in the bottom
Thats my main problem with using a large bin like this, had to cut out afew holes so I can get a hose down there:D

I agree, this looks very nice.

Have you considered t5 lighting? Not that there is anything wrong with MH lighting.

I use T5s on my current tank and it has its advantages. I think one can be superior depending on the application though. I think a 400 watt halide will work the best. I can always add T5 actinics later.

All of the egg crate is removable. I was considering dividing each piece into 2' x 2' pieces so that there would be four pieces instead of two but decided against that. There are two returns below the egg crate that are close to the bottom of the tank which should keep detritus from accumulating. This is important because once this is fully stocked I do not want to remove many frags for routine maintenance. If the flow from the two returns is not directed down enough to suspend small particles then I will add some loc-lines with nozzles and direct the flow down at a slight angle. All of the returns end with 1" couplings so I can add mods later (eductor, nozzle, loc-line, etc) if desired.

Iwasaki or Ushio make a 6500K I have wanted to use it it and a 14k alternating between the 2 every few months. Basically get great growth, then slower growth and develop color.

Hmm excellent idea. Maybe switch from a 10k XM to a 20k XM... I like this idea.:smokin:

Make the eggcrate into 4 pieces. No matter what you do you will have to remove the egg crate with corals on it for some reason and a 2x4 piece just can't be done loaded with corals.

alphaor- Natural sunlight would be fun to experiment with but there is no way I could use it now. I also wouldn't get the colors I am looking for. I am planning on stocking a mix of everything. Zoanthids, Ricordia, acros, montis, etc

Treeman- You are right. I was just thinking, what happens if that one rare frag some how falls onto the bottom. I will have to remove of egg crate to get to it.

Redeyeelf- Im not sure I follow you. Are you saying I will need more flow?

chudsosoft (lol)- Pictures will be posted soon once I get my PVC in and plumb the tank.

all depends on what you are keeping
I though I'd have enough flow with 3 k4's and 2 6045's...I don't
but I keep mainly SPS in my growout bin

I just got my first fish. Its a Secretive Wrasse. I need to think of a good name for him (or her). I am drip acclimating him to my 30 gallon frag tank water and will hold him in there for a few weeks until my new tank is ready to go. He will control Flat worms, Amphipods, Isopods, Snails, and other bad guys.

Amphipods, Isopods, and Snails, could be good guys and most often are...

I know I was half joking.

I got my PVC in today from Flexpipe.com. They only left out two fittings and gave me another wrong one.:rolleye1:

I was impressed at UPS care of the package also. Im glad it wasn't a computer.

This is what $200+ of fittings looks like.

Im going to start plumbing the tank now.

AARRGGGHHHH...a check valve!
Don't rely on that to prevent a flood. They tend to get fouled up quickly with vermited snails and fail to close when you most need them! Make sure you still drill siphon breaks!!!

All of my returns are below the water line. I cant figure out how to drill siphon breaks. Can you explain?
