40 Breeder Stock list

Good morning,

I am getting ready to stock my 40 breeder and wanted some input on the list. Below is what I was thinking:
1. Maroon Clown (Already have in another tank)
1. Red Stripe Angel (Already have)
1. Starry Blenny (Already have)
1. Sixline
4. Fire fish
1. Fuzzy Lion(Thoughts on this in a reef?)

Side note: 40 gallon / 20 Gallon Sump/fuge / ASM Mini G skimmer / 6 Bulb T5 / Phos Reactor with Biopellets.
The basic info on tank.

Let me know what you think.

Too many fish. The fuzzy lion is a definite no as it will eat any other fish it can fit in it's mouth. Even a dwarf lion has a really large mouth. The firefish may get bullied by the clown. Maroons are pretty agressive.

My 2 cents...
- Firefish should be kept either alone or in a M/F pair. They do not school nicely like you see in the fish stores when you get them into your home aquarium. Males fight period and will kill each other and telling genders apart it nearly impossible.
- Fuzzy Lion is more of a danger to the other fish on your list than to a reef. It will most likely eat the blenny, depending on how big the clown is the clown, the firefish, and for good measure the six line. I believe they eat crustaceans too like ornamental shrimp and hermit crabs. IMO, this is not a good fish to mix in with your tank. If you devoted your whole tank to a single fuzzy lion, you might be OK but that would be about all you could put in there fish wise although your tank may be too small for even one. Also if the maroon is too large to be eaten by the lion, there is a good chance that the maroon will harass and kill the lion.

Your safer bet for a stocking list would look something like this, but when the maroon becomes an adult it may decide the entire tank is its own and no longer allow other residents.
1. Maroon Clown (Already have in another tank)
1. Red Stripe Angel (Already have)
1. Starry Blenny (Already have)
1. Sixline
1. Firefish maybe. Three of the other fish on your list are fairly aggressive and may intimidate this fish keeping him from eating resulting in death.

So, if you knock the fire fish off. What other fish would you all add? Lets just say you already have Maroon,Red stripe, and Blenny. What else do you add to your 40 breeder? Would you recommend getting rid of the maroon and going with a pair of clowns?

Yes. Even thought maroons are so beautiful. Get a nice captive bred pair of a cool ocellaris hybrid. I think that will open your options considerably. Good luck.

Good morning,

I am getting ready to stock my 40 breeder and wanted some input on the list. Below is what I was thinking:
1. Maroon Clown (Already have in another tank)These tend to get agressive in smaller tanks
1. Red Stripe Angel (Already have)
1. Starry Blenny (Already have)
1. SixlineI personally would go with a carpenters flasher, or canary wrasse
4. Fire fish
1. Fuzzy Lion(Thoughts on this in a reef?)Will be fine with corals, hermits, and snails, any other small fish it will devour

I like your list but you need to limit youself to about 3-4(if you go with the lion) and 4-6 without the lion. Lions produce a lot of wastes. My 0.2

Yea, I have changed my list up since starting this thread and hearing the feedback. It looks more like this.

2. O. Clown( Selling the maroon)
1. Red stripe
1. Starry Blenny
1. Wrasse
1. Fire fish

That look better?

That is definitely quite a bit, but with 10% weekly water changes, and if you stay up on everything, I think you'll be fine. :)
