40 Breeder

Hey everyone,
I'm the process of setting up a 40b (my largest tank thus far) and thought it would be fun to start a thread dedicated to 40b's. My thoughts, since most have a build thread we could keep it simple and post a link to our builds, a few pics of the building/design phase and maybe monthly/quarterly/yearly updates. Whatever your inclined to do.
It could be a great research tool for someone looking to set up a 40 and if your like me, I just like to talk tank.

Sounds like a great idea. I am setting up a 40b right now as well. Just got my sump built the other day. I will get a build tread started and link it over.

I set up a 40B too, last Thanksgiving. So far I have made it through all the algae stages and it's starting to look pretty good. I really took my time. I just put the first corals in about 3 weeks ago (brown button polyps, 2 different leather corals, a half dozen mushrooms and two small colonies of anthelias). Nice size tank...Not too big....good footprint for coral placement. Good luck to all of you! Tom

I am building a 40B mangrove with only 60% of the tank filled, using a HOB CPR Fuge as the filter and the outlet will make a waterfall over the LR wall at one end where the Mangroves will be plated. I'll have several lights hung over the plans and one over the water section. Will have crabs and damsels in the shallow water end.

Tank is setup, the fuge is running, waiting on plans and LR to arrive.

Loving the 40b. You would be hard pressed to convince me to upgrade.

I love the idea of this tank but I don't think damsel's a great choice. A more natural choice, and less aggressive would maybe be some cardinals.

Glad to see people chiming in, thanks everybody.

Justin, that sounds really cool. Loving the exposed rock and waterfall, look forward to seeing pics when your ready.

In the meantime, here's where mine stands as of now. Still need to build a door and put a finish on. Can hardly wait.

Hey Rusty, nice job on the stand so far! I'll join the club - I'm still working on my stand. I have some dry rock soaking in saltwater, just got a box of plumbing supplies today, need to build the sump and overflow box, etc., etc.

How's the flow with one MP10? I've been thinking about getting rid of my Koralias and get one MP10 and eventually another for the other side. But I can only afford one to start if I do.

Here's my latest FTS. I moved some SPS down since this photo was taken. They were starting to bleach and I thin I killed one.

Future plan is to build an LED light and ditch the beyond large canopy. Looking at a 36 LED setup from Rapid LED (24 RB, 12 White, dimmable)

I am planning on upgrading my 20H to a 40 breeder. Need more funds =/ I got the skimmer already though. Next purchase are lights and mp10!
