40 Gallon Custom Setup

Lookin good! I'll have to get a dosing pump like you since my sps are starting to grow out now.

That bluish prostrata looks really good though, I bet it colors up more too.

Thanks guys, I'm still fighting the cyano, but I think I've found the cause, Nitrates are 20ppm. I just changed RO/DI filters so we'll see if that helps... If not I'll be busting out the chemicals and nuke it away! :)

Here's some updated shots you can clearly see the cyano...

Great thread and Great tank! Thanks for documenting the build for us all to use, and for pointing me over here from my thread.

What's funny is I have been thinking about replacing my big tank with a 24*24*24, or 30*30*24 cube. There are allot of great ideas here I could use.

Thanks,
Whiskey

Hey Eric! Tank looks awesome as always, even with the cyano! Did you know that Molybdenum can help prevent cyano outbreaks?! Helped me!

Thanks buddy! What the heck is Molybdenum and where can you get it? :D

So I did a lot more research on Molybdenum and it actually fuels Cyano and Hair Algae! :eek2: I thought it was suppose to prevent it! :eek1: Somewhere along the line I got confused  ... This is a really good article on algae ... Sorry for the confusion buddy however at least I can correct my thinking :p

http://www.syngnathid.org/articles/greenHairAlgae.html

"Molybdenum is essential to beneficial organisms such as zooxanthellae, as well as nuisance algae such as green hair and Cyanobacteria."

what do u think about the 150 watt hqi over a 15g long? as of now i have all my coral in my 5gal tank under four 24" t5ho, but i think the t5s make hair Algae grow!

Sounds good to me, I love HQI setups! As for the T-5's unless you are running old bulbs the hair algae isn't a result of the lights it's a result of nutrients in the water...
