40 Gallon Glasscages Starphire anemone tank build

That's going to look beautiful. I need a different tank for mine.

The anemones seem to appreciate the extra light from the IceCap.

FWIW I would recommend the fixture even minus the hacking. I would buy one again any time.

Where can you buy adhesive vinyl? I need to add a black background to my 29 gallon. I was going to try the craft store to see what they had.

Wow such cool Nems!! And yes we all like pics. :)

Maybe just the front plate is starfire. Even that is way cool. Wish my tank had a starfire front!

The front and two sides are starphire like I said. The back is regular. It's not hard to tell the difference!

I have propagated some before, but I don't think I am going to be cutting these guys. I am hoping they will split for me on their own. Since there is going to be rock in the tank it would be hard to get them out for the cutting board. Since it's a relatively small tank I can cut it off from the 265 and do larger percent water changes to encourage splitting.

I sure wish you would propogate and sell them. I cannot afford to buy a freaking 100 anemone just to find out its sick and it cannot be saved.

BUMP FOR MORE UPDATES

The flow accelorators are actually eductors. They cause back pressure and that will choke out your mag drive pump. If you're seeing less flow with them on, thats why as mag drive pumps are famous for choking out under back pressure. Wont cause damage to the pump, just wont produce nearly as much flow as it otherwise would. Another point to consider is that they are not anemone safe.

They draw water in from the rear ports/vents and will suck a wandering anemone in. With your anemone's being freshly introduced to your system, they are going to hunt around to find the optimum place for themselves....this may entail them "exploring" your eductors. I would reccomend removing the eductors until the anemones settle in for a bit, and possibly consider not using them all together.

Its going to be a beautiful set up and I look forward to seeing it progress.

Moving day has arrived. Nems haven't really stretched out yet, but they look ok. This will give us something to compare to later I suppose.

maxxII thanks for the info. I have taken them off. The only good thing about them is they slow down the mag which makes the tank a lot quiter. It's not the drain that makes noise. Just the overflowing water.

I ordered a 4 fan azoo unit, but for now it has the ugly walmart clip on that is way too big. It's functional even if it is ugly! Still waiting on new aqua medic bulbs.

I'm going to work on finishing my cabinet doors tonight. Hopefully they will come out ok.

awesome setup

awesome setup

Can you post a picture of what your sump looks like and what size it is? It's an awesome set-up. looks great.

Do you think the flow accelerators are strong enough to suck an anemone into them? Just curious. I'm thinking about putting them on my new anemone tank.

They are strong enough to suck an anemone in, but they wouldn't chew the nem up like a powerhead. Would probably suck him in and spit him out the end. Not lethal, but still not ideal. Plus, the nems tend to go straight for them and want to be right in the direct path so that increases the chances of a mishap. Now in the 265 I have 4 nems who have stayed put and have stayed away from the tunzes thus far (knock on wood).

More pics soon. I did get the aquamedic bulbs in. I am thinking I may be doing myself an injustice with the lighting upgrades as some of the best nems I have seen were under PC's, VHO's, etc. I like the long stringy look and in an 11" tank getting blasted with overdriven t5's I may not get that. Although, I have seen nice anemones under MH's too...Probably over thinking it.

Minor setback (I hope). I got the aquamedic bulbs yesterday and one didn't fire at all. Not physically broken, but wouldn't work regardless of placement, etc. Called hellolights this morning and he tried to help me telling me to try the bulb in a different location, etc. SOO I took one of the good bulbs out and replaced it with this one and switched the power on. My IceCap made a frying noise and now I have NO lights. It is hard for me to believe that a bad bulb could fry a ballast, but it was on working perfectly, I switched the bulbs, turned it back on and sizzle. I took the fuse out. It's not burned in half, but looks kind of burned. I don't know since I am not a fuse replacing kind of person. Will have to wait for the expert to get home unless someone here can tell me. I mean obviously it's burned a little, but I'm not sure if that's normal or what...OK I'm going to shut up now.:o

Here's the fuse. Worries me as my last IceCap 660 blew fuses repeatedly no matter what I did. Hopefully a fuse will fix it, but I have no idea.
