4000 Gal Tank

How much would a tank like that run.....

OK what makes me go wow is this

Water weighs about 8 pounds a gallon x 4000 gallons = 32,000 pounds of water... INSANEEEEEEEE

AND thats NOT including the salt which makes the water a little bit more dense.

considering the weight of that tank is mind boggling. youd think it would have to be in a basement on the concrete.
this is an awesome tank indeed. im not from the ghetto but i think they call some of these people "player haters" lol

In case I missed it, how is topoff water added?

Even though this much volume, per one of the posts, requires a heat pump, it HAS to evaporate 20+gallons per day.

Nu2SW,

From one of the pictures it looked like there was no basement. It looks like it was a part of new construction. With that water weight on a new foundation, I wonder what would happen if the foundation settled after adding that kind of weight.

Hope it doesn't happen, but miscalculations caused mr4000 to shut down his tank.

Yeah that would suck if it settled, tank crack, But im sure that they got that packed down good and put in rebar in the concrete.

He probably had this tank in the blueprints and the city where he lives would have to have some specs probably.

But could you imagine it cracked in the house..... well the sharks would have more room to swim...

rebar would not cut it. The aquarium weight is supported by 30" concrete reinforced by 8" steel "I" beams. We had an engineer design the support system. Barring an earthquake, this thing will not move!

Is this owner truly a Marine fanatic or do they just pay someone to do this and treat it as just a fancy piece of furniture?

Any way you look at it, it is a pretty neat tank.

Having kept reef tanks for several years now, I can't imagine a tank without corals. I would have had to make a few columns/reef ledges for some corals near the top.

But, it was intended to be a shark tank. As long as it is working well for the owner, and it makes them happy, more power to them.

The guy that owns that tank live about 10 min from me in Charlston... THere was an artical recently in the sunday paper about it..Its so sweet they had tons of pics. He is a very well know person in the area he owns several car lots .. I know what in going to do for a living now screw engineering lol jk

He is not a member of our local reef club chemical valley reef club... lol We were wondering about that school of Lookdowns don't the get really really big????

what was the cost to install the tank?
