Can you fire it up and let us know if you can hear yourself think?

LOL...I can't even think when it's quiet! I may try to fire it up tonight after the UCLA game. GO BRUINS!

I agree with discotu. I bought it as an emergency backup in the event of some catastrophic power failure. As far bothering my neighbor, the generator will probably drown out his dog's continuous barking!

Don't forget to purchase a fuel stabilizer since most of us will leave the gas in the generator for a few months or even years. This will prevent gumming and removes water to prevent corrision.

Its $4.99 at Kragen and treats 20 gallons of gas

Great tip! What are you using for an extension cord?

OK...I came home put some gas and oil and fired it up. Its pretty loud. I dont know what they meant by it beign louder that a conversation. With that beign said i dont care how loud it is since i will be running the generator in an emergency. For the price its a good unit. My friend checked it out and told me when i run my generator to cut off the fuel supply when im done to starve the carberator of fuel so when i put it away there is no gas in the carb to get gummed up.

I know lot of us are DIYers here. This guy built an enclosure and brought the noise down to 59db (no load).

I'm not going to build such a nice enclosure to that extreme but it gave me some ideas. The original long post on how he built it with additional pictures: (3rd post down) http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/15131645/gotomsg/21045728.cfm#21045728

Did you choose in-store pickup? My friend just ordered one 5 minutes ago and it went though.

I forgot to mention that the enclosure in the few post above has a fan built in and temperature was kept below 140 degrees

BpOC, I got that message, too. I logged out, closed Internet Explorer, then tried again. No problem.

Order is in, says I can pick it up in 1 hour (I doubt that since they aren't open). I'll be there tomorrow to pick it up.

Thanks guys for the info!

P.S. - We don't really have many blackouts here in Las Vegas, but seriously, what guy doesn't need a 4,000 watt generator that can pump out 29 amps. For $125 I almost got 2. Great Deal!

Soes anybody know if I can send in the invoice that the store gave me with the rebate form? Will that be sufficient or do I need to get another sort of receipt from the store?

I had to ask for mine as well. He didnt know what I meant so I said you just enter my invoice # in your cash register and the "Rebate Authorization Receipt" will print out. Then he knew what I wanted.

Even though I had a 15% discount off of $299.00 the Rebate Authorization Receipt said $349.00 purchase price.

Unpacked and fired up the unit this afternoon, started on the first pull. As I have no prior experience with generators, I have no reference whether this unit it loud compared to others. I must say that it is quieter than my gardener's lawnmower, but louder than when both my house AC units are on. I hear it running when I'm inside the house, but not annoying at all.

FWIW, I whipped out my Radio Shack decibel meter and took some readings. Standing next to the unit it read about 80db. At 20 feet away, it read about 70 db. I think that's the distance they rate these generators at.

Thanks cthetoy again for the heads up on the generator and gas tank!
