tdool,

It was made with heavily reinforced concrete, on a floatig slab, covered by 4 or 5 layers of marine epoxy. It's bomb shelter quality materials and construction.

Hmmm.. Now I have to figure out a way to trick the wife into letting me build one in my basement office.

One ambition I always had while living in Michigan, where they have basements was to simply build a cinder block wall across one end and build viewing ports for glass, then paint the entire thing with epoxy swimming pool paint.
Here in Florida, of course, there are no basements on the coast, so it's back to plain old aquariums!

And just for friendly conversation, have you ever housed blaktips? Then perhaps you could share some insights..........

My apologies for a VERY late reply. I do not wish to hijack this thread, so I'll keep this as short as I can. However, I do find this debate a very interesting topic, and would be more than happy to continue in another thread or PM.

Yes Buddy, I have and still do house a black tip. And yes, I had/have read your posts regarding this subject. However, your logic still didn't make much sense to me. Here's my viewpoint.

Sharks are my passion...and their food is just that to me, food. I see it no different than the rats which are fed to snakes, or the beef in my burger. Consuming an animal for nutrition is the same to me, no matter who killed it. My shark eats fish in the wild, needs them to survive, so as a responsible keeper, I feed them. I've fed my shark hundreds of live fish. It's never bothered me. Why? This is what sharks do for a living...literally. They have to eat just as we do. I could (and do) buy them frozen/prepared foods, but is that nearly as nutritious as a live fish? Not in my opinion. I realize (and practice) that frozen foods can be enhanced with various vitamins/supplements, but that is just not enough for me. I choose to add live/whole fish, even if they only last for a week/month. :D

Well i thought that this subject was closed....

OK, but why didn`t you tell all the tank size that you have it in?

OK, so their food is just food so maybe you tell me if you buy a small tusk that runs from $90-$125 to feed it? It might sound silly to you but i would go along with less expensive fishes, you could grow them large in another tank and when their of size to be a good mouth full, you could change them into the tank with the shark, just thinking out loud of course. The thing is i did my shark tank years ago and i not feed them live and... well you read it so i not need to repeat myself here.........

I find many mthings interesting in all marine animals and it not need to be of any further discussions of this subject, you do what you want as the next hobbyist well do so, you want to only feed live............. OK, by me :) But since you decided to further the conversation here, i just one question, What size tank is the blacktip in?

You asked me if I had ever kept a black tip....I replied. ;)

You bring up a good point with your example of a $90-$100 fish. Is costs the determining factor in what is right or wrong? I buy my feeder fish wholesale, but I dont think that makes it morally right or wrong. The sharks (bamboo, horn, blacktip) are fed a variety of foods. Some live, some frozen. Some big, some small. Some cheap, some $. Well, you get the point. :D

The sharks (3) are in a 1700 gal tank.

Well, you get the point.

There is no point to be getting here other then that the choices of feeding fishes are many, so why select such a beautiful and high range cost of marine animals in doing so, you see my point in the new thread with Mike`s advance discussion.

Water quality is pristine. Nitrate is under 2.5ppm.

Tank pretty much looks the same, but there are only 2 groupers left and the sharks are a lot bigger and fatter.

Based on my calculations, the tank is close to 5000Gallons, as opposed to the 4000 previously discussed.

No really much else to say.
