i am looking into upgrading to a bigger tank here is my thoughts on it was looking for some water movement advice and any ideas you guys wish you put to work on your current tanks.

here is the general layout

i will be drilling the tank my self, and plan on having Four 2" overflows. do you think its to much?? maybe to many holes that close will make the bottom to weak?

for a return pump i plan on using Sequence 9200PWR69 as the sump will be in the bacement, should be good for 7000 gph

it will be drilled as shown in the pic.

for lighting a will be running 3 - 250 watt MH and 2 - 400 watt MH
and 4 - 110 VHO Actinics.

Skimmer will be a MRC MR6 skimmer with i Reeflo hammer head for a pump,

the sump will be a 125 wide

Also this is and in wall tank on a concrete floor

what do you suggest for the beast water movement? Also any ideas are welcome so get them coming

I just did a tank of the same volume and one of the things I wish I had done differently was make my overflow wider and deeper. I am very glad I had it done external but I wish it was bigger. With that many 2" drains you may want to spread them over a larger area. I highly recommend putting the overflow box external if you can, make it a silent herbie and not waste valuable real estate inside the tank.
Looks like it will be a sweet build. Are you planning for this to be a reef? Just wondering with the height. For flow I am using Vortech MP40's and am quite happy with them. The only drawback is the sponge covers need to be cleaned several times a week and if I don't use them fish can get sucked in and pinned to the side of the powerhead. I lost 3 fish before I gave in to using the covers. I think using a hammer head on your skimmer may be overkill and you would likely have to dial the flow down.
Good luck.

What size glass you thinking of?

I would be scared with that many big holes so close but I have no idea if this fear is backup with facts.

thanks for the replys. the skimmer pump is what the company suggests to use for the skimmer thats the only reasone i am using it. As for the over flow i never had much luck with external overflows could you post a link on the type your running? i am looking to flow 8000 gph maxx will probly be less.

as for the glass.. the bottom is 1inch and the sides will be 3/4 with a starphire front.

i plan ondoning a mixed reef. and would like to try a stingray in it with other misc tangs Sohal, Clown ect..

My tank is 60" long, put in 30 inch long external overflow, notched back glass before tempering. by going to a longer overflow, I notice better skimming. you can come up through the overflow box with your returns too.
