I have a few ideas for stocking my upcoming 40 gallon reef. Feel free to give any suggestions on which might the best or what stocking improvements could be made.

List 1:
Ocellarris clownfish pair
Firefish pair
Midas blenny

List 2:
Firefish pair
Banghai Cardinal pair
Sailfin blenny

List 3:
Occelarris clownfish pair
Blue/green chromis
Watchman goby
Orchid dottyback

List 4: Ocellaris pair, BTA, CUC. I was going to say sailfin, but I have only had mine for 6 months and he barely fits my 80 gallon. I feel like a 40 gallon just wouldn't be enough landscape, but maybe.

Are there any other fish that would make good tank mates with clowns? I've heard mixed reviews. Also, don't anemones need strong light? I definitely won't have the strongest of lights, so I don't know how well an anemone will do.

I'd say list 1, but maybe swap out one of the firefish for a flasher wrasse or something. Adds a bit of movement and they are really cool to watch.

My 40 breeder has a fat head, a red firefish, green mandarin, blue star and black spot leopard wrasse, dusky wrasse, and a twistii wrasse, but I might be a little over stocked.

a couple people have told me more than 1 chromis will eventually become 1 after time in a smaller ish tank such as 40g

according to live aquaria a midas blenny will nip at fire fish

im putting together a 40g nuvo tank later this week and when it comes time to stock im getting 2 clowns first, then a couple weeks later i will be adding a Banghai Cardinal, couple weeks after that ill add a purple firefish then 2-3 weeks later ill add a tail spot blenny after that im not sure what kind of fish i will add but definitely will add a few snails, hermits, crabsand shrimp in between the fish....after the blenny ill have 5 fish in the tank, i will most likely just let the tank run its course over the next few months and see how things work out. Im really leaning towards a wrasse, i really like the 6 lines but have read numerous stories on how they are jerks and a pita to catch if you want to remove them so ill probably just end up getting a possum wrasse....i really really want a mandarin but not sure if ill have a strong enough pod population to support a mandarin, well see what happens later down the road.....oh i started a thread similar to this not long ago, might be worth checking it out
