Well, the time has come to start my build thread. I've spent the last 3 months just reading and asking questions. Now it's time to get started.

I have 2 40b tanks and a stand, I've ordered a 100gph home and reef RO/DI, a reef octopus skimmer, a pair of wave makers with control unit (jaebo), a jaebo dc return pump, Red Sea master test kit, and will order my light (a 300w Chinese black box) today some time. Next week I'll have glass for my CTC and plumbing parts for my BeAn drains.

Reef world, here we come!

The plan includes a simple fuge for pod multiplication, an ATO setup, 70lbs of TBS live rock, 40lbs of TBS live sand and then the wait...

Follow, advise, criticize, or just visit and get to know one another!

Happy Reefing!

nice! i'll be tagging along. just decided to get back in my self. and was gonna do the 40/40 thing to just missed the petco $1 per gallon sale by a few days. but a lil charm and they honored it for me. but they one had 1 40br so I got a29H for sump.

are you using 2X Rw 4? I think i am gonna start off with one then add one a few months down the road.

i had a reef octopuss on my 75 loved that skimmer! I thought about using it on this one but it a lil big + it in storage 200 miles away.

for lights look in the the new ledzeal S150 malibu plus, i think that what's i am gonna go with. ( not 100% sure tho only stated the idea of getting back in 2 days ago but i have the tank and sump already!!

anyway I'll be tagging along your build.
GL
Cheers

Sweet, post a link to your thread when you start it. I'm not sure I understood your question 2X Rw 4...

I also read your post on rockets thread about a stand. I picked up a metal stand from Lowe's that fits the 40b perfectly, so much so that I have to put the sump onto the bottom shelf before building the top and putting the DT on. It will hold the weight of 4 tanks so not worried there. Anyway, might be an option for your stand. It was $80 but builds two stands for that price.

yeah I watched a video on that on youtube. but did a quick search at lows and did not find it.
got a link by any chance?

TBS rock is pretty amazing stuff. I use aqua cultured Fl rock to.
wow 2X wp25 that 's a lot of flow. SPS tank i take it?

I haven't decided on SPS yet, and like the abort to turn the WM down. My thought is, if I turn them down and have proper placement I'll have decent flow without over doing it. I want to avoid dead spots as much as possible. I'll try to get the link for you on the stand.

I don't have a link but here is what your looking for

I'm pretty sure I'll go with the Mars Aqua 300W Chinese black box. I was going to order it today but got busy.

I'm jealous you're going to go with all live rock from TBS. Darn spendy but seeing everything on Rocket's build thread.... Wow! My rock just looks so... blah now. lol

Looking forward to seeing this come together.

Yeah, I was not going to either, but watching his build I just can not resist... It will take a bit longer due to cost, but in the end I think it will be worth it. Oh, and my wife said yes lol. That's the main reason ;-)

Sounds like me and you are doing similar builds. I just finished the stand for a 40B over a 40B sump and a 20L for ATO.

Also going to be using a 32" Chineese blackbox LED (300 watts) for the lighting.

Sounds like its gonna be a good build. I am aslo setting up a 40B. I have my CTC installed and and about done with building my stand then I will plumb it. I went with a custom sump by Trigger Sys that I can upgrade with. Ive done DIY sumps in the past and didnt want to deal with it this time. Good luck on the build, I'll be following along.

Sweet guys, I would love to follow your threads as well. What's your past reef experience? I am brand new to the salt side of the aquarium world

I've had 3 different reef tanks, from 55 to 24 and the 40B was previously setup but life got in the way.

Been in the hobby since 05 or so, off and on. I had some equipment but I am trying to take my time with this build and make everything nice, neat and function well the first time.

wow looks like a lot of us are in the process of 40br... love it :)
so what are these 300W black box lights you ppl speak of? ...google here i come.

I am really thinking about stand from lowes...have you set it up yet? got pics?
i wanted to do the 40/40 but ended up with a 29H for sump. wonder if that would work as the 40 set perfect on the frame of the stand and the 29 would not. wonder if a pice of 1/4 or 1/2 plywood would do the trick?

Yeah, I hear you there. Even with my first time in I'm trying to learn from the mistakes and mishaps of others before I have to face them myself. I'm sure I'll go through my share of surprises but at least I'll try to eliminate some.

It's just setup in my office at the moment, the sump is not on it yet. I will have to take the top layer off to place the sump. As for your 29g sitting on it, the board that comes with it is just press board so I would get a piece of 1/2" plywood and put it on top of the press board. You can install the braces upside down to make a deeper lip too if desired.

Oh that does look good. I have a few "skinning" ideas for it to to hide the sump and equipment too.
hmmmm decions decions.

yeah your are correct in taking it slow and learning form others. saves money and time.
i start out in 05 with a very over stocked 90 gal i bought off of ebay have to move the tank and fish the all the tangs died in the process.
over all i have have a 90, 125, 55, 75, 150, 240 and now a 40BR. wow that's a lot of tank in 1o years... never typed it before or thought about it like that..

This is my second attempt, I had a tank a little over a year ago (29H) that was going good as a FOWLR but I had to move so I tore it down and didnt rebuild at my apartment. But now I can no longer not have a tank and the wife gave me the OK so its on. My build thread isnt on here and I believe mentioning the site it is on is prohibited in the open forums. Maybe I will do one here as well, we will see
