40g Breeder Build Thread

And so it begins, another build.

Plans with this build:
- 40g breeder drilled with gl*******s overflow
- Painted back and sides of tank
- 100-150gal rubbermaid sump (you'll see why when you look at additional plans)
- ASM G3 skimmer from 75g DT
- Start with nem/clowns to let the nem settle in (hopefully)
- Tonga branch dry rock from BRS (amazing selection btw)
- (2) koralia 3 PHs


Additional Plans:
- Will be running pipes from 75g DT upstairs to sump in the basement
- Dedicated fuge in 20-30gal tank

Sweet, is that an in-wall? You have plenty of room to work with filtration in the back, that's for sure. That's awesome!

Yup, it's an in-wall. I finished part of the basement into a home theater/poker room. The tank will be directly over the poker table.

Haha, good point! The last party I had at my house, everyone fought for a seat in front of the tank upstairs.

Looks fantastic!! Have you drilled for the glass-holes kit yet? I have essentially the same set up that I'm putting together (40B from petco sale and 29g sump). I haven't ordered the glass-holes kit yet but I will certainly be doing so soon. After watching several of their glass drilling videos it looks like a piece of cake.

Just got the glass-holes kit in the mail. Mike (the owner I'm guessing) has a perfect audience analysis on the market IMHO. Candy mixed in the package along with hilarious instructions. Well played, well played...

I'm planning on painting and drilling this week. I'll post pics soon!

In other news, I've made a nice hidden hole in the wall within a built-in bookshelf that I will be running 1.5" drain and 1" return pipes through. I've gotta order the return pump so I know where it'll be sitting. Along with building a raised platform for the rubbermaid sump and return pump.

Can't wait to get this thing in action!

Tank is drilled.

Sump is piped and tested with freshwater for leaks.

Just waiting for all the salt to mix!

Jaw breakers, those flavored tootsie rolls, and one of those sugar dip things. Kinda like pixie sticks in a bag with a tongue depressor to get it out.

I'm not sure on how long it took. Not overly long.

Yup, I went with the 700gph one. I honestly was so stuck on wanting to make sure my return pump was at the same flow as my overflow. But then I realized that as long as the overflow is rated higher than what you're pump is pushing out, you don't have to worry.

Can't wait to get the system rolling! Tomorrow should be the day!

Tentative rock stack. Not sure I love it yet. Plus there are a few extra pieces not in there yet.

Dry tonga was from BRS. Great buy!

So I've heard conflicting reports on whether or not I can just connect this to my existing system (75DT, 100g sump, 46g fuge).

Or should I wait for the rock to cure and the tank to cycle?

I would wait for the rock to cure - your system is Probably big enough.... I'm just a noob though, so I usually go the better-safe-than-sorry route
