40g breeder SW help

So i'm thinking instead of buying a 28g nano cube, I could use my current 40g breeder.

- Would 2 hydor nano 425gph on opposite ends with on in back and one in front creating a circular flow work? I'd also have a smaller nano on in the center back facing towards the front of the tank.

- A fluval PS1 skimmer in the back corner

And with the money i'd be saving I'd get an aquatic life RO unit that does 50g per day.

I'll skip the reef lighting for now and stick to a few fish and cleanup crew. I have a marineland day and night led light i'd use for now and a 200w aqueon pro heater.

Then here is my upgrade plans:

1st upgrade: Turn my 20g long into a sump and house the heater, skimmer, a deep sand bed, and whatever else there.

2nd upgrade: Reef lights and start getting corals.

You would have enough flow for a fish only tank and some low flow corals.

What pumps would I need in the display tank to get med/high flow in certain areas for corals?

EDIT: can clown fish, and other small sw fish even handle 40x turnover in the display tank?

Yes. I'm running an MP10 at 100% on a 36x18x12 reef tank and sometimes think about adding more flow. I have around 40x turnover in the tank.

Im running x2 Wp-10 with a jbwave controller and it does a good job of moving water. I will be upgrading the RW-4's soon tho just cause everyone that has it says they have a wider flow pattern then the wp-10's.

Those look nice. 100g/ph to 1,000g/ph. WOW

Prob a stupid question, but how much does my stocking options increase from a 28g nano cube to a 40g breeder?

I would do with the 40. A lot more room for coral.

I'm more interested in corals, but would like to keep something like;

2 captive bred clown fish
3 Blue Reef Chromis
2 firefish goby (prob not a good idea since I want to keep the tank with an open top?)

I'd luv to have a yellow tang or dwarf angelfish, but 40g breeder is no where near what they need.

This is what I have in my 34g 36x18x12 reef tank. I would like to eventually add one more small fish.

1 Maroon clownfish
1 Clown Goby
2 Gree/blue Chromis
1 Yellow watchman goby
1 pink streaked wrasse
1 Swissguard basslet

Are you running that skimmer and pump because you plan to upgrade the display tank?
