40ish Flat Back Hex

So we took our maroon clown pair out and are wanting to do at least a dwarf lion (fuzzy or zebra). We have a reef octo 1000 hob and about 65lbs of rock. great caves and aquascaping but now we're stumped at anything else we can put in the tank. I had done reef for a long time but i'm over it and currently we're just in an apt so I wasn't wanting to get a large tank for fowlr as I had before and have to move it. . . .Once we're out we are looking at probably a 210 but that's a completely different conversation. So basically we have a 46ish I believe it is and will have one dwarf lion . . .what else should we consider? surface movement is decently strong from the koralia but the rest of the tank is fairly mild for the most part. Any help is greatly appreciated it's been about 6 years since I had a few tanks and was really into everything.

personally i have my dwarf lions with small eels. i have a fu man chu with a black ribbon eel. this tank also has a marine betta and cockatoo wasp. tank is a 4foot 55 gallon

my fuzzy lion is with a skeletor eel from DD. also in the tank is a carribean scorpionfish. this is a 46gallon bow.

you have options just take your time and find what you like. most FO tanks do not have the same color as their reef brothers do. so the fish choise IMO is important to you enjoying the tank

Between the two fish you mentioned, I highly recommend a fuzzy over a zebra. Fuzzies are a lot more hardy, and easier to wean and feed, generally speaking, and make REALLY good "first" lionfish.

We keep our M-F pair of fuzzies with a cockatoo waspfish and small scorp (Scorpaenodes caribbaeus) and they do well together. We have also kept dwarf lion species with a trio of O. borbonius anthias, red fin waspfish, and Scopaenodes litoralis (another small scorp). You could keep a D. biocellatus (fu manchu lion) in the tank with a fuzzy/zebra as well.

We also use live macro algae in most of our setups, smaller lions, scorps, and waspfish spend a good deal of time hunting larger pods between meals. A bit of flow is OK as long as the fish isn't being blown around and has ample places to rest.
