4200 GPH....In A 90 Bow Front......

And I still have diatom on my sand bed. All powerheads are pointing down towards my sand bed. In my 90 tank... WHY? Four weeks ago, bought another 1400GPH PH.... sure the nems loves it.... but I still have the nasty brown dust upon the sand bed. I now have a total of 3 1400 and plus a little nano ph behind one of the backside of my rocks.... Can you please help?


Info. 90 gal 48" long, 28" high. I added another 1400 gph powerhead (4200 ghp) and I still have diatoms on my sand bed. I have played with the powerheads to slightly scan my sandbed. (I do have fine sand)

Tagging along. Have about the same issue. About 2500 in a 40 breeder.

Are you skimming?
Do you have your own RO/DI or do you get it at your LFS?

Does not solve the problem but conchs do a good job of helping to keep them in check.

Have you checked on overfeeding? Also there was a thread here were people did not turn on their lights or just ran actinics for a couple of days and that seemed to help.

How old is the tank? have you tested for phosphates, nitrates?
