45 Galllon Cube. My dream tank...only smaller!

You never really have to worry about the Clam with these treatments... It doesn't seem to affect them.. Glad to hear the shrimp and crab made it through... I thought for sure the crab was going to take one for the team! Fantastic. Just my 02, I would watch the tank over the next few weeks without treating again and if things look ok, wait a few months and just do a maintenance dose... I'm not crazy about the every 7 day treatment for two or three weeks... Too stressful on those that survived IMHO... I would give the critters a chance to strengthen again. i've had no re-occurences using this method..

Sexy looking topoff by the way.. I love GEO! He makes some great stuff!

The new toys are cool bro. The top off especially looks snuggly fit and perfectly sits in the available space.
Are those pics using the 4S? :)
Cool the tank went well with the treatment. That's great news!!

geo did a nice job on that ato tank. told you he is top notch. one thing i did see though, you really dont want your probes to be close to your dosing lines. wouldent the alk dripping right by your ph probe hive you false readings?

Sweet build Chris. Dont worry about the interceptor treatment, it'll all go smoothly.

Um, spoke to soon. Ask pepe lepuhe how he liked the interceptor...

Again, spoke too soon. No the pics are with my tm700 panny, the 4s isnt shipping to verizon in my area til Friday. Ill have it Monday. If it takes better pictures than my panny, im gonna hope the video is as good. If thats the case ill be selling my panny camcorder and buying a nice dslr! I see it happening honestly. THe 4s' camera is said to be incredible. Plus after just starting to use my evo that I had last week, I was already able to take a VERY accurate picture so im optimistic. Well see how that video comes out.

Yes and yes. Geo did a better job than my grandma would do for me! lol If she knew how to run a router...but yeah he went so far and above what was neccesary I really dont even know what to say and the price made my mouth hang open. I cant see the material cost even being $50 for 1/2" acrylic. The master is not paying himself too well.

As to the dosing lines, they already give off false readings dripping 13" away from one another in the sump. In our tiny systems theres really no way to keep it from happening unless we did one in the tank and the other in the sump. SO id rather them just be in the same place. Knaw mean?

The pom pom is still kickin and actin normal, just a swishing his catchers mitts like nothing happened. Not so much for every other shrimp or crab. boo. Good thing is that I havent seen any RB's. Fingers crossed I wont see anymore for the life of my tank! I am going to heed jbanks advice and not treat again unless I see some survivors. With the treatment taking out much higher organisms I just cant see it not destroying lower crustaceans. Im just glad I was able to isolate my fuge. I will leave it unconnected for a few more days just to be sure I get as much of the interceptor out as possible. It seems happy as ever with being taken off the main system. I think the vodka was hittin it pretty hard. Ill refresh the carbon tomorrow and do another large waterchange when i am done making more.

SPeakin of vodka, I stopped dosing it today because ive got a peech fuzz outbreak. So I will give the tank some time to settle then resume maintenence dose.

Sorry about the the Shrimp and those that you can't see, but the good news is that your other inhabitants are doing their Job! and expensive lunch, but a lunch none the less.. make sure you keep your fuge off line long enough.. Is the lifecycle of the RBs known?

Unfortunately cyano is a side effect. I ended up losing my fire and cleaner shrimp but my pistol shrimp and porcelain crab were uneffected. Not a great price to pay but my SPS started looking better than they had in a long time. Good luck man.

yes I intend to leave the fuge off for a full week which is what Borneman guesses the life cycle of RB's to be. I may give it a few more days just to be sure. In the meantime im feeding a ton of phyto and small meaty foods to boost the critter and plant populations while I have the chance.

Oh and yeah, you hit it right on the head, "thats an expensive lunch" is the first thing I though when I saw the antennae sticking out of its mouth...dang it. That was a $70 snack. At least hes still eating it so its a lasting meal!

Cyano is a side effect of interceptor? I hadnt read that but of course I didnt read a lot of hobbyists expieriences. I wanted info from pros and those with scientific credentials so as to not get conflicting anecdotal info.

Im unsure if I stil have a pistol shrimp or not. Ive not heard him in awhile and I have/hadnt seen him since I introduced it a month ago. He was SO small, itd be amazing if it made it through this treatment not to mention got enough food to survive in my tank with all my hungry fish and the cleaner shrimp...

Now the fuzz that I was talking about is like white/clear litterally peachfuzz looking junk on all the rocks and plastic in the tank. I thought it was algea but it stayed white so I can only assume its bacteria blooming from the mb7 and vodka. Ill try to get a pic of it before it goes away so it might help others identify it. I got it in my 28 before too when I was dosing vodka but not bacteria, although that tank was old and had its share of bacteria as it was.

Yeah I agree, that does sound like bacteria. I had a small cyano bloom too but it was pretty minor and cleared up once the tank got back on track. Ive heard oyhers claim yhis too. There really is no way of knowing what that stuff is whipping out short term. I did my treatments 7 days a part and other than a couple shrimp everything turned out fine in the end.

+1 on Bacteria bloom.. backing off the vodka is the way to go until it disappears.. You may have to lower your maintnenance dose a bit.. Also, +1 on the cyano .. It seems that the die-off usually causes a spike in PO4.. However, your fuge is off-line (so no losses there) and you did do a water change, followed by your regular weekly's coming up... That should help a lot, but even then, you still may get a litttle... Hopefully, when you put your fuge back on-line (I would definitely give it an extra day or so just to make sure), it will help significantly with feeding on any excess phophates in the DT.

Thanks guys! And yes, the skunk cleaner was $70 from an lfs here. I had a giftcard to spend and it was the only safe thing from the place I cared to get. I laughed a little when they tried to sell me a "larger" one for an extra $20. I asked if they realized that the larger they are, the older they are, and I was just looked at like an idiot. These shrimp arent long lived animals, why would I want to pay more for less lifetime...? I wish we had a better place but the only real good place is where I worked as a teen and its been closed after 50 years due to an incompetent new owner. Its sad.

Also, as to the PO4 you wouldnt know it, my tank looks great today! Best it has in a while. I didnt really have a lot of pods in the DT due to a saddle blenny and sixline so there shouldnt be a lot of dieoff. Only 3 small blueleg hermits are unaccounted for so thats not much to add to the biolad. Ill be refreshing both the carbon and gfo tomorrow along with a waterchange this weekend a bit larger than usual. I think things are gonna go fine. If anything a little nutrient in the water wil be good for the coral since I was probably overdoing the vodka a touch. I couldnt really judge the api nitrate kit well so I was waiting for it to turn totally yellow which it never did so I lowered to a maintenence dose of .4ml of 40 proof since the corals were lightening. Ill go back to only .2ml's next week and see where that puts me. My PO4 was .01 yesterday before I did the treatment.

Heres a picture from my cell phone.

I never would have guessed that I would see that from you.:D
Welcome to the club. Lol.

The vids look great. Well done. Tank looks great too BTW. Doesn't look like those RBs have effected it too much so far.

Top off reservoir looks really sweet.
Tripod is even sweeter.
Frag rack.
Probe holder.

You're on a roll.:)

Your clam's gonna be just fine. Your shrimps and crabs probably not so much. I don't know why some make it, some don't...?

Funny that your fuge video is longer than both of your DT videos combined.

Yeah I had to do it after seeing jbanks post one. These smartphones are a new game to me so I had to!

In person, you can really tell. It took me looking at old pics then blowing present pics up to see them. Once I did I realized how bad they had really affected the coral

If you call dead animals and extra work on my part a roll then Im on a ROLL! lol

Yeah would be nice to know the whys and hows wouldnt it?

Thats cause my tank doesnt look so great right now and I always post pictures of it so I didnt think you guys would want to see more of it. A small tank means you get it all in ONE shot so there isnt much subject matter...oh and I LOVE the fuge, really thinking of switching my freshwater plant tank to a macro tank! seriously. Theres a chick in the macro section here on RC that has almost got me convinced. The only thing holding me back is that I dont want plants that grow even quicker and need me to mix their water:deadhorse:

hiya Chris.....
Oops on the dead shrimp...gosh 70$ for the skunt is pretty steep!
That dead crab looks damn ugly....its one of them bad typres right?

The "peach fuss" does look like bacterial bloom...maybe cut down on the MB7. Are the fishes picking on it?
TRy basting it...maybe the corals will chomp on it :D
If ur corals are looking happy now its a clear sign that the RBs are toast :D

Do the water changes and and connect that fuge to ur system... so the tank can be repopulated with pods and all the critters.

I had mentioned the carbon dosing can be bit detrimental to the fuge..but i think your feeding regimen will make up for it and sustain it.
PO4 can raise as a result of some die off...but since you were carbon dosing which was again a good idea...the Po4 is gonna remain in check.
Going aggressive on GFO changes might not be a good idea....but changing the GAC till the tank is cleared of all the meds will be good IMHO :)

Hm the iPhone camera does a great job of taking videos and OK close up pics....but somehow the FTS looks bit bluish in my case,,,,maybe its coz of my LEDs.
Whatever the case you are getting an amazing gadget in your hands...its gonna make u an Apple fan!!
