450 Gallon Aquarium

So if you guys were to setup a 450 gallon reef, How would you do it? What techniques would you apply? Flow? I will be upgrading to a 450 gallon aquarium built into a wall and I am looking for innovative ideas to make this tank, a future tank of the month, hopefully with the help of all of you. So I will list some of the equipment that I will be working with right now on my 240. My 240 Acrylic tank will be going up for sale soon, PM me if interested. Thanks

The new tank will be 96X36X30 Glass with Starfire front.
I have a 125 gallon sump/refugium
Hammerhead Closed Loop Pump with an Ocean Motions 4-way.
Sequence 4200 pump for return
2X400 Watt Coralvue Metal Halide
2X400 Watt PFO HQI Metal halide
2X96 Watt Compact Flourescent Actinic
2X110 Watt VHO Actinic on Icecap Ballast
ATI Bubblemaster 250 Protein Skimmer
MRC Dual Chamber Calcium Reactor
Maxcap RO/DI with auto-top off

So working with this equipment how would you set this tank up and what would you add and Why? Please let me know!

thats a whole lotta stuff. its gonna be awesome! i know you already knew that it was gonna be awesome, i just thought i would say it too

I want to keep the holes in the house to a minimum, otherwise I had thought of that. I really like the whole natural sunlight aspect on a reef tank. But thank you for the suggestion.

Sounds amazing! Have you checked out the forum for large reef tanks? It is under the special interest forums. I've never spent much time there, but I bet it would be informative. There is another post somewhere on reef central that chronicles the building of a 720 g. The thread is something like "spending my daughter's inheritance." Good luck with your project.

Ha! Now that I think about it, you can just move the tank to Tucson... lol..

Whos going to make the tank? Have a manufacturer in line or pricing yet? That would be interesting to know.

Dan,

I have a customer in Iraq that wants me to send him a FW plant tank to hold him over from the joneses of missing his reef. Any way to load a kit on a plane at DM Iraq bound? Got to figure out the 220V issue but sounds like a good USO project for me. Maybe I can personally deliver it hehe (I wish)

Rob, I will check the avenues of delivering such an item to Iraq. The 220 V should not be a problem because he probably already has a converter for items from home. I will check on this!

ZOAKEEPER, Rob at Southwest Aquatics will be building the tank onsite at my house. The tank itself is going to cost around $4,000 dollars. This is just another addition to the many services already available at Southwest Aquatics.

So after a long wait, I finally have an update with pictures on there way. All that is left is to paint the wall and install sumps, filtration, and plumbing!!

So the equipment and filtration systems have changed a little bit...
Lighting: 3X400 Watt Coralvue Reeflux in Lumenbright Reflectors
Skimmer: Brand New Reeflo Orca 250
Ozone:Red Sea 200 MG/Hr Ozonizer Deluxe w/controller
Sump/Refugium:2 55 Gallons and one 125 Gallon
Water Movement: Hammerhead with Ocean Motions 4 way
Return Pump: Reeflo Dart

I have 1 lumenbright large pendant over (LxW) 30 x 30 and love it. I think 3 of them will work great for your tank. I would recommend the pendant over the standard reflector.

What ballast are you going to use to drive your reeflux?
