450 here

It is just crap rock there is more under the sand I'm trying to keep rock crashes down . That is were I plan to stack the rest of my rock.

You need to think of an exhaust system incorporated into your hood/canopy I would put your lights on a rail system and cut a hole in your wall to slide it back into your equipment room for maintenance.

Best advice I can give. Learn from Kurt's mistakes :D You want to be able to get in the tank and not use tongs all the time.

I cant Drain pipe and main House support beam is in the way that is my whole problem with my hood. I dont want a small village to come over to take it off.

support it from the beams above and slide it the other way then you can work from the back. Either way I would want access from the back you won't have to worry about dripping on the carpet and you can walk on some boards over your sump. probably wouldn't want to change bulbs with a foot in your sump ya go the other way.

Oh i see that now in the pic, can you make it on a rail that slides out the side of the canopy into the finished room & cut out the top of the drywall so you can get some ventilation & access the tank from the back?

I dont know that is my problem. I was going to cut holes and vent them into my sump room that is for sure with 4-400 watt mh I will need the air flow. I see no easy way around the hood.

I have heard alot of people are going bare bottom in tanks...

You need to start a new tread and go bare top... no canopy!

Solves the problem.

Quit whinning about it!

John, make it like my snap on tool box top, where you have hydraulic struts to lift the top and the front fascia piece come up as well with the top so you gan get in there to add stuff or move things around, put 2 - 4"-6" ducts with computer fans blowing air into back room .

Hey, cant we just use your Snap-On tool box lid?

I mean, John is a auto mechanic !!! Would be a cool look. We can replace the Oak skirting at the bottom with metal draws from the toolbox.

With a tank that long have you ever considered one of those rail mounted sliding lights. Less lights to buy but a bigger one, i.e. 1 1000 watt mh then have it start on one side and slowly move down to the other as the day goes on to simulate the sunrise/sunset. You still need supplements but those are cool and not expensive considering you don't buy as many lights. I think they have them with horticulture supplies.

Yeah, what the heck is taking so long to get this tank up and running anyway???

Thanks for the help guys.

John,
Your set-up looks great. I hate to see the skimmer go but you will get better use out of it than me - enjoy. thanks
Randy

Well, I can't say that I worked that hard but I put in some good time watching! BTW- We can definitely mod that skimmer to recirculate! If we can't get to the inside to tighten a bulkhead then we could put a uniseal on the side and plumb it that way. I could make another modified union for it if you want....
