45gal reef tank, no sump, no filter, Aqua C Remora HOB Skimmer

^ oh bummer sorry to hear that sir :(
what are the dems. of that 45? same as the 40br but a lil higher?
I am setting up up a new tank gonna focus on gorgs. how long have you had your yellow finger? feeding etc.

The 45g (36"L x 13"D x 24"H) is actually an unusual tank. It's basically a thinner (front to back) 65g (36"L x 18"D x 24"H) , which is a taller 40b (36"L x 18"D x 16"H).

So in reference to a 40b, a 45 is taller and narrower front to back

Johnny where have u been buddy? Lol, if u already started a tread to your tank send me the link, otherwise u are taking to long

Haha been really busy traveling for work......never fun. I have all my equipment, set up everything except for my lights. Ran into a huge snag when I found out I have lathe n plaster ceilings and couldn't find joists to hang the lights from. Tried stud finders, magnets all kinds of stuff, finally found the right equipment but had to order online (arrives tom).

I couldve start my cycle a while ago without the lights but I didn't want to get any debris in the tank when I hang em AND I haven't been home for more than 3 days in a row in 2 months and don't want to run everything until I am home for at least a week straight to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Will hopefully have the lights up tomorrow and then unfortunately have to travel again but will start my cycle this weekend!

Have been taking a bunch of pics and will start my build thread soon:cool: I will definitely send you the link brotha.

Alright miguel. Finally just finished hanging my ati sunpower 6x39w from the ceiling. What a royal pain/nerve-wracking experience that was. I went the extra mile and used an oak 1x4 screwed into 3 joists and then screwed the hanging kit into the oak. If it falls I quit reefing forever haha..........or ATI sunpowers and just throw a radion led or two on a rack [emoji6]

Traveling tomorrow morning then be back on the weekend at which point I will fill up the tank with rock/sand/water and start my cycle (and my build thread)!

Super pumped but also nervous haha, so much can go wrong with leaks and stuff I think ill need to see a therapist once it's up and running [emoji27]. I'm in a rental townhouse with hardwood floors so if anything goes wrong I'll probably get the boot. Cross your fingers!

Haha it cost as much as one let me tell ya! the light made my brain explode the first time I fired er up. BTW did you use dry rock or live rock in your tank?

Yep I got lucky lmao, I have had it for 9-10 months but it is a fatty, he eats Whatever is on the way, anyways I believe I have so much rock that my tank is base on amphipods and Copepods, you can see all of them at night with a flashlights, there're millions of them honestly, don't ask me how, I I only seeded it once about 10 months ago

That's so awesome, was it an ORA (tank bred/raised) mandarin? I've heard they are breeding them to eat prepared foods now. Did you buy it online? Even though you have lots of copepods and amphipods I've heard that a single mandarin can eat the whole population of a 75g tank in about a month and then starve to death if they won't eat other foods, it's crazy.

I really want one but only if I can find one that eats everything like yours. How'd you seed copepods and amphipods?

No I bought mine at the lfs around my house, I had no idea either did they, at the beginning he would not eat it, I kept throwing some right on him and he started going for after a while, the Copepods and amph, they sell like half a bottle of water with a bunch of them on the inside, u just pour it over your tank, make sure lights are off otherwise everybody eats all of them before they can hide

as long as you have areas where the mandarin can't reach they'll grow/multiply quickly enough to keep the mandarin fat. My dad kept one in a 55 gallon for years that was quite chubby,. it was his only fish and he didn't feed it (It just ate pods). I have a ton of pods in my 40 gallon tank from the live rock I got from tampa bay saltwater, huge variety.. I'm sure a mandarin would love it in there... I'd have to tighten up some spaces so there were areas he couldn't reach though.

Yes, they have to have a place to safely reproduce or the population gets decimated fairly quickly.
