45gal reef tank, no sump, no filter, Aqua C Remora HOB Skimmer

Lmao that's a sweet watch, even though android sucks sorry lol, I live in fort Myers Florida, you in Florida as well?

Haha whoaaaa common man, don't even get me started on iphones.[emoji48] . Nah I'm in Washington dc, but have a house in long key and have friends in Fort Meyer, great golf there as well.

Am having the worst time with some green algae bloom on some of the rocks, I added a bag of carbon and will leave it there for 3 days and see if that helps any

I would recommend gfo(phosphate reduction) or water changes (nitrate and phosphate reduction) rather than carbon. The carbon polishes the water and eliminates contaminates but will have no effect on nitrates or phosphates which feed the algae. Could also just buy a couple snails [emoji6]

I have a lot of snails but they seem to be on the glass and the sand, there's not many on the rocks, I was planning on doing the water changes once a month

What type of snails? You could literally pick up the snails and put them on the algae everytime you notice they aren't on it haha, it works. "Get back to work" haha[emoji106] Could also get an urchin but after the algae goes away it would starve fairly quickly without supplemental feeding.

The once a month water change will be great for your tank, but you might have some accumulation of nitrate/phosphate that will take a little while to go away that way (initially).

Having said that, I'm a big believer in letting things run their course and not over reacting, so the only thing I would do is get a couple more/different type of snails. Not a big deal at this point.

If it gets a lot worse and won't go away then i would increase the size/frequency of water changes and maybe run some gfo for phosphate reduction (either in a reactor or passively in a bag).

John I will get more snails, I don't like over reacting either, what gets my attention is that the green algae is not there after the light goes blue or first thing in the morning, it disappears completely lmao

I may be mistaken but that is something that dinoflagellates does, which is a whole lot worse than your run of the mil algae. If that's what it is, you will need to treat aggressively or it could take over your tank.

Do some research and here's one thread I stumbled upon recently. Don't try anything drastic until you can confirm that's what it is though.

Thanks Johnny I will take a look at it

Congratulation miguel! i really like your tank!

Lol thanks Marco, am actually really upset because I been working 65 to 70 hours a week for the last couple months at the hospital, and haven't have much time with my tank, leave house and light are barely on and come back and moon is on, only time is on Sundays and I actually try to go with the fiancée somewhere or give more attention to my needy labs lol, glad coming September am getting my normal schedule back and will have more time for the tank

Hm, dino can look many different ways but I don't think that's it because it doesn't look snotty (atleast in that picture) and I don't see any gas bubbles. Both are common characteristics of dino. Have any of your snails or fish died? It's toxic so that would be another indication.

I personally would manually scrape/siphon/remove as much as possible then see what happens. If it keeps coming back and gets worse you could also run gfo in a reactor/shorten your light period/reduce feeding. You can get a brs mini reactor and pump for like $50-60 on bulkreefsupply.com. I'd be curious to see what your nitrate and phosphate levels are. It likely is just stock green algae due to accumulation of nitrate/phosphate.

How long has it been there?

Is only been a couple of weeks, actually this morning the water was as clean as I have not seen it for a long time, everybody seems to be doing great, and it is growing over coralline, maybe coralline????
