475g stocking question

Hi dudes

my plan is to set up a new tank with 475gallons. Size in centimeters: 150x150x80

Is it possible to have: Moorish Idol, Sohal, Pacific Blue in there?

Further I just want to add some anthias and lots of wrasses.

I do not want any aggressions or stress in the new tank because I had some aggressions with tangs in my tank.

Or do you have any other nice ideas of stocking?

cheers,
steven

If aggression is what you want to avoid I wouldn't get the Sohal, when they get big they will bully any and all fish it pleases. You could look into a Dussermi, or Maculiceps maybe? Or a small group of purple tangs is always a nice sight

Yes I see that.. And what do you think about a nigricans/japonicus + pacific blue?
A group of purple blue is a rly nice idea.. never seen that before. Are you sure this works with a group?

I have a group of purples, +1 it is a nice sight. I made sure they were all similar sizes and introduced them at the same time, no problems. I don't know if the tank will be void of aggression though, purples can be nasty. Ime a group of yellow tangs are also very nice, and mine actually seem much more peaceful in groups.

HolyMoly, I can imagine that sight. But I dont want yellow tangs as I had one which was rly rly nasty. They are very aggressive imo.

But a group of purples sounds very cool! Never had a purple tang.

Im also interest in adding some triggers. A friend of mine has a pair of Odunus niger and they look fantastic!

But the focus should be wrasses and anthias. It should be a mixed reef with LPS, Softies and SPS

Purple tangs and yellow tangs are on the same level as far as aggression goes IMHO, if anything the group setting toned it down, but be warned!

Also, I wouldn't trust Niger triggers with much of anything. In a reef setting with small fish, crosshatch and blue jaw triggers are the best choices.

+1 to buying them at similar sizes, I had 2 years ago in a 180g with no aggression issues what so ever. All fish are different though, typically a group of 5 works whether they are yellows or purples if the tank is big enough. Sounds like you are good on that

Nigers are as reef safe as the others but trigs still cant be trusted...
tony vargas wrote an excellent paper on reef safe trigs and focused on the niger and pinktail...think it was in aquarium mag aug 2007...

Yeah, a friend of mine has a pair of niger triggers in his 800g tank.. They are very quick swimmers and they need lots of space. He told me that these guys are jumpers.

So I think a group of purple tangs is a very nice idea! But I wanted to keep a pacific blue for sooo long :)

And my Moorish Idol should be fine in the tank. I think he should be the first fish which I add. I will add tangs last and whe I add them then all together.

I also do have a Pomacanthus navarchus in my actual tank.

Other question, did you guys ever see a tank with a group of about 20-30 Zoramia leptacantha? When they are grown up they have a really nice coloring and they shine like diamonds.

I'll have to look that up! Sounds pretty cool. I have seen them be extremely destructive in the past, so I'm sure it's one of those things where you have to plan the tank with them in mind. IME the Xanthichthys triggers are "safer."

+1 on the Duss, they are amazing. Yes, that is the scientific name.

Are you speaking about this fish? Acanthurus dussumieri
I dont know all the english names of the fishes :mixed:

Never saw this live in a tank. Do you keep one?

Yes, sorry...The Australian is prettier though both are stunning fish...I do not currently have one but they are one of my fav fish...
