Hey guys, how would you light this size tank, All SPS ? and what would you use for flow. Thanks

Short square, really...

There's a local store that has a 48x48" tank, even shorter, at 8". Great frag tank, can't imagine setting up a display in a tank like that, though.

With some creative rock work, I can imagine it coming out pretty neat. I'm sorta partial to depth, myself, but if you like shallow, well, it's your tank!

Flow: Depends on how you set up the tank. I'd be tempted to do something like that with a center overflow and returns, probably even a water tight raceway to run cords up the center. Free standing, so you can walk all the way around it. Mount it low, so you can easily look down into it. Perhaps 4 medium power wave pumps, one in each direction, from the center? You'd certainly want some sort of wavemaker pumps... using the main return pump to generate enough flow for that sort of tank would require a _huge_ overflow.

Good luck :)

I love those dimensions, I really hope it has an external overflow, that would be close to my dream tank. :inlove:

I would probably run 4 250w radiums and 6 MP40s.

48x48 cube would be a really good size. For flow, I think I would have a center over flow and use the return pump with the dual or quad return nozzles for all flow. That way you don't have wave makers hanging on the sides of the glass and you can point the nozzles in different directions and cover flow around the whole tank.

If you're not thinking center overflow, you could have 4 return pumps on the back wall pointing towards the front glass.

I am building a 48"x48"x24". There are two TOTM about the same size.

IMO, center overflow is not as neat as external overflow in the back. The beauty to this dimension is the depth. Surprisingly, both TOTM are just using two tunze powerheads. Seems everything works out just fine.

I would use 2x ATI 8x54W to cover the whole tank if you are going SPS.

I rum my 48x48x16 with 4 400w MH pendants and 4 vho actinic
all SPS... and seem to do well

for flow I have 4 large tunze pumps

If you don't want to go metal halide, how about 4 Radions? And for flow 2 MP60s on the back wall firing forward. With a tank that size you have a ton of options.
