48"x30"x30" tank build

So the time has come for another upgrade.
This last week I finally moved the 180 gallon rimless (euro braced) from the garage and into the house. I am now on day 4 with saltwater in the tank. I am using frozen food to jump start the nitrogen cycle. Blah blah blah let's get to the fun stuff. I have decided to make this a Tropic Marin Balling reef system. My plans you ask? well it'll be a simple filtration and SPS dominated tank. No fancy algae scrubbers, no expensive lights. Just skimmer, 210 lbs of dry rock, chaeto/mangrove when higher nutrients come into play, and ocean revives. As of now all I have to show you is crappy picture with a busted iPhone camera but it's better than nothing. I'll do my best to keep everyone updated on this one.

Tropic Marin Balling salts. Way to go. What dosing pumps are you going to use? Carlos has been using the Tropic Marin Balling mixes and had great success. I'm still adding the Fana Marin Balling light emlements to BRS 2 part. I may switch to the Tropic Marin mixes down the road to see if I notice any difference.

Awesome, I was looking at the fana marin myself, but after looking into the balling method more, I chose to go
With tropic marin because they are the only one who "claim" to be following Hans werners method to the T. I have also seen nothing but great reviews and that helped sway my decision rather than using a calcium reactor. For dosing pumps I am interested in the ghl 2.1. As of now I am using the cheap jebao dp4 with bionic on the Red Sea 350 and have had no issues with it. But I plan to upgrade as time passes. I'm also very interested in the kh monitors sold by coralvue and eventually will acquire one of those too. How have you enjoyed the balling light method so far?

Yes the Fana marin appears to work just fine. i ended up using the balling light elements because I already had quite a bit of BRS 2 part as well as Mag so as not to let it go to waste I just bought the Fana Marin products and started adding them

Bye the way on SWK's recommendation. I bought and use the Liter Meter III pumps. They work really well. The only setting is how many ML's you dose per component per day and the pumps spread it out over a 24 hours period. They are not cheap $500 for 3 pump setup, but worth the consideration

Yeah that's understandable, no need to waste what ya already paid for. Tropic marine also sent out an email to my buddy who has been doing balling for 2 months stating to check his magnesium levels. I guess they can get a little on the low side even without the water changes keeping he water ionically balanced. Something to keep in mind, idk if fana marin has the same issue.

Awesome, I'll definitely give those a look and keep my eye out for them on r2r sale threads. 500$ is a lot of $ but you get what you pay for! Thanks for the input I appreciate it

Yeah I decided to go BB for now, throw some leptos or chalices on the glass and decide later down the road if I like the encrusting look or not. Sand can always be added [emoji16]

Now I have no evidence of this, so I will only take what he said with a grain of salt and do my own testing to see for myself.
