If you have the time I would let it mix for 24 hours. If it's an emergency just make sure it's the same gravity and temp as your tank. Just my opinion, you will find a lot of varying opinions on that question.

For water changes I only ever mix for 12 hours for water changes, in 8 months of reefing this has always been fine
I was just wondering as it was a smaller batch of water could I mix for perhaps an hour or so, I manually top off with RO and my tank has a water level line, as the water has now dropped due to acclimating the new arrivals I dont know how much water I need to top off to.
What kind of salt is is?
There are some brands that you are not supposed to mix for more than 4 hours, and some where longer is ok. Idk if any of the regular ones that are sold in stores nowadays actually recommend mixing for a really long time, but it would be easy enough to find out.
