5 yr old bat fish commits suicide

I treated my 125 for flatworms today
I followed the instructions perfectly
I used the flatworm exit then after about one hour I did a 35 gal water change.
I waited another hour then put my charcoal in.
2 hours later turned my UV sterilizer back on
I call home to check on the puffer because before I left for work he looked very pale.
My wife goes downstairs and finds the bat fish on the floor!
The bat fish was extremely fast but I do not know how it got out of the tank.
I just looked in on the puffer and he is very pale with glossy eyes and is slimy to the touch.
He keeps swimming into the seio 2600 pumps current.
The copper banded looks fine.
My overflow on my reef upstairs has also developed a drip, I can not tighten the overflow without taking the overflow apart.
I am close to hanging it up!!

Absolute sympathy. That's a gut-hit. I hope that you can get some local help on this.
Is there any chance there is any stray current involved, with all the turning off and on?

You might want to go for another water change and watch the pH, salinity & temp on the new water.

It's possible you had a lot of flatworms that you couldn't see and didn't siphon out, & they can be causing the problem.

It looks as if the puffer has a sun burn.
Is pH burn a possibility?
from pH being too low
Copper banded looks normal
Could the puffer have eaten some of the flatworms that were dying off causing this problem?
I heard that flatworms are extremely toxic when they die off.
This does not explain why the copper banded looks fine.

Why did your overflow develop a drip?

there is one washer on the inside of the overflow
I think there should be another on the outside
That would put one on each side of the box where the two pieces of pipe thread together.

It sounds like you have it setup correctly. A washer on the outside where you thread the two together will not seal well. It will most likely twist up when you tighten it up. The washer on the inside should be sufficient to seal the overflow. You can always try a bit of silicon just to be safe.

I'm having a problem with my new fancy Oceanic RR tank. It's really bothering me. Basically, it has a built in overflow. Then the tank is drilled at the bottom and bulkheads provide the seals and connection to the plumbing. The problem is that the pipes that connect to the bulkheads inside the tank are all slip fit and don't quite seal. So the overflow slowly drains into the sump via the small leaks. It's not a real leak, but the overflow holds about 4 gallons of water, so it creates a sump overflow problem if the main pump is off for a long time.

try and loosing the bulk head and tighten again (make sure the gasket is on the right side also)

geppert, The best advice I can give you is to do major water changes. It is a 125 gallon tank so I'd do around a 35-40 gallon water change. I'd try that then do it again in 2 days. If you have a QT tank I'd place the puffer in it right away, but continue to do the water changes. Best of luck to you, Don't give up hope just yet. So sorry to hear. I know how hard it is to lose a good fish though I've never kept anything that beautiful before. I can say this though, I've talked with a couple of hobbyist who gave up after disasters and you can hear the passion and memories and you know they miss it. Water changes is a definite must. Wish I had more advice and wish you the best of luck with everything.

I lost everything.
The puffer died and the copper banded.
I received a call from my wife she said stuff did not look so good, so when I got home I did another 25 Gal water change.
I took the puffer and the copper banded out the same night and put them in a QT.
The next morning when I woke up they were both dead.

My friend called me on Fri morning telling me his tank looked like crap and everything was dying.
He treated for flatworms on Sat and I treated on Sun
I told him that I had also lost everything
He lost a kenya tree, true perc, sea cucumber and lots of mushrooms. Cabbage coral
I tested my water for ammonia and it was 0
pH 8.2
everything seems fine so I am giving it another shot.
I put a clown in on Fri night from my friend that did not have room for it. And a extremely large anemone that it was paired up with.
I just looked in on them and there are doing fine.
I am going to turn the 125 into a reef now that all the fish are dead.
