50,000 litre tank in a boutique hotel (Bangkok , Thailand)

The transformation of that place is amazing. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

Thanks ! I am also very eager to complete the project.

That is a great rockscape! You will have very happy fish with all those caves to explore.

Thanks for following the thread.

Gotta say this is one instance where the "Rock wall" look isn't bad, mostly due to the sheer scope of it.

Yes the sheer size does help .

Absolutely stunning

Thanks for your kind comment .

I am just wondering, after seeing the great picture with the natural sunlight, if you are going to subsidise that with other lights? And if you are, how will you incorporate them above the tank without blocking the natural light?

I am leaning towards metal halides as supplementary to the natural sunlight . I have been thinking of a mechanism where the metal halides can extend out when switched on and then retract when switched off . However still have not figured out how to do it .

Natural sunlight is best, but I wouldn't say Metal Halide is outdated. It's still used by most of the major public aquariums. Other than natural sunlight, for depth I don't think it can be beat.

Here's a local tank to us lit by Natural/Metal Halide:

This picture I found shows the top of the reef and the ring of Halide lights above it:

This is really a fantastic build and I can't wait to see it on our next trip to Bangkok. From my travels in Thailand I've found that hotels there are very artistically designed (generally unlike that in the US) and yours is no exception. Beautiful!

Looking fowared to welcome you here . Thanks for such useful links ! Trying to mix natural sunlight to metal halides but have not quite figured out .

When are you planning to start filling up the tank with water ? how are you going to fill it ? natural or mixing with syntetic salt

Start plumbing all the pumps on Friday and then will begin the task of filling the tank first with fresh water by water truck . After passing the leak test we then proceed to fill up the tank with natural sea water and start recycling .

Well sounds pretty exciting ! wonderfull build keep it comming those nice updates. Looks so real everything !

Looking great! Retracting lights would be so cool...
Speaking of "cool", are you going to run any cooling with all those pumps and high ambient temperature in Thailand?

I love that detail on the reef structure it self, it is going to be nice when it is all full of calcalgue.

This will take time to grow in full off corals :). Some nice tangs can go in there god damit. love the idea of have something @ home.
