50 Cube SPS Zeo Reef

good idea!

but it wasn´t that much of a innovation...

Some LED and the new Triton Method, nice skimmers coming from Aquabee, new LED from Phillips looked nice...

Flo
Didn't seem like any real new products, just better versions of the things already available which I am totally okay with :) lol it would still be awesome to go and see everything in action and have a chat to the manufacturers!

New stuff = stuff that breaks when on vacation. :)

Faster Dom, need to see new tank! :spin3:
Mark, I'm booking a ticket straight to your house if anything goes wrong with new equipment next time I'm on holidays :fun2: haha

I'm going as fast as I can! lol Plumbing should be here today/tomorrow and I'm going to remove the light poles of my tank and bring them here today as well and mount the lights on legs on the tank again. I'll do another 100% RO change again today as well on the rocks and then bring over any other bits and pieces I'm going to need here :) Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have a tank with water, rock, flow and the spare skimmer I have :) Minus a sump, lights and everything else haha

+many many 1's :p:p

First sentence mark....sooooo true:beer:
I'll be after you next once I'm done with Mark! :blown:

I had to order the elbows from Aquabella funnily enough but for $20/m I wasnt going to spend $40 on plumbing I mostly won't see haha I was very tempted too though lol

At that stage I could not get ALL my plumbing list from Aquabella so unfortunately I could not plumb my tank with the red pipes which would have been so freaking cool.:headwalls:

It definitely looks really cool with the red plumbing and all the pazazzle when you you do it right! lol but for the moment I'm just happy having gotten everything in grey so it isn't obvious lol might look a little weird with a blue-white Vectra lol

That's when you know it's a good event! 8km is an amazing walk around haha

You and me both ;) lol I'd be happy to see it on a bad year let alone a fantastic one haha

you should have seen the tank from one of the biggest wholesalers here...

2,00 x 2,00 x 0,80m lit by Lani Leds worth around 16.000€

total worth was around 100.000€.... :jester:

The Lani's are gorgeous!! :D If I were to go led's and had the cash I would be buying those in an instant!

Well after writing my rather long winded literature review, "Fracture induced mechanisms in cast iron water mains" and finally feeling better after being rather unwell the last few weeks, I was finally able to get home to see the tank after three weeks of no water change and it wasn't good. Not good at all :( kinda effed up if you ask me..
I have no words to describe the troubles the tank is having and I post this simply for the sake of being able to look back at the difficulties I've had like I always do:

I almost wanted to abandon ship and run away :headwalls: it was just disgusting, this is why you shouldn't live away from your tank while unwell kids! The thing that got me the most was how upset some of the acro's were, turns out the salinity was up way high to add to it :( and my brother still thinks the tank is "normal"! I can't really blame him but he's as observational as a blind cavefish... and as ugly! lol
To add to the mounding disappointment, I couldn't find my little copperband anywhere either :worried2: :sad1: "but I swear I saw him yesterday and he was fine"
I suppose you can say I just sucked it all up and went for broke. Took me a few hours but I removed as much of the algae as I possibly could. I pulled my little maxima off his rock and cleaned him right up, taking every piece of algae off I could find and 70% of the zoa's that had grown on him, I'll be removing the rest next time! Completely removed a small rock that was overgrown and siphoned up the rest of anything else I could find.
Once I was all said and done, the acro's had immediately calmed down and settled a bit more which was reassuring to see and the little clam was getting plenty of light again, unencumbered by the algae and zoa's that were making it's life difficult!
The end result isn't much better but it's certainly an improvement, I'm hoping to have this tank completely gone within the month and everything in the new tank. I have my plans in place and the new tank is getting here on Sunday so hopefully everything turns out okay!

As you can tell, algae is definitely a bloody nutrient sink... this is the skimmer only 20mins after turning it back on once the water change was completed..

It may be an uphill sh*t fight at the moment but I'm positive about what the new tank is going to bring and I'm thoroughly excited about it and having my babies back! One of the things I'm looking forward to is being able to feed my fish babies a proper diet and get their colours glowing again :)
I have my plans in place for the new tank so I'm hoping I can work things in properly and have the tank running smoothly before the removalists get to the house to pack everything up! lol

Dang Dom I had no idea that things had gotten that bad. I will say that you can see the noticeable difference between the two pics and the stress level (s) in the tank. Looking forward to see what the new build will hold in store for you.

Reef keeping is life!

oh that´s not good to see...

Dom i hope everything gets better with the new tank!!

3 weeks not with my tank, don´t wanna know whats going to happen...

Cheers,
Flo

Ouch, Dom!
What a mess but you did a fantastic cleanup.
The tank (light) at the end of the tunnel is the perfect motivation.
You're so close!!
When you have it set up where you can properly dote over it, it'll be fanfrickintastic!!
I'm really looking forward to seeing your reef taken care of by you instead of your troll of a brother!!!! God love'em!! :)

Dom,
Looking forward to seeing your new tank, no worries about the current situation, use it as a learning opportunity on the "do's" and "don'ts". I am certain the stoke of setting up a new tank alone will get things tidy and and good order. Keep it positive my friend, you are about to turn a new corner :)
Cheers Mate!

Yarp, they're pretty bad at the moment :uhoh2: the acro's are going to a temporary home to be looked after as I want to get them out into better conditions but everything else is just going, the fish are un-phased by it all but there was definitely an improvement in happiness from the corals after the water change and the skimmer removed all the crap from the water!
The new build is going to breath a nice big breathe of fresh air into my reefing life so I'm really looking forward to it :)

Dom,
you can send me those frags to me at Brisbane. I will keep them safe for you till you want a piece back. LOL
:lolspin: sure thing Kevin!

Yeah it's a bit of a downer but I needed to document it, as much as it hurts! Everything is going to be miles better with the new tank simply because I'll be able to see it every day and look after it without it being a chore like it is at the moment!

Ouch were my feelings when I got back to it as well!
It was messed up how much I pulled out, I had to have the bin next to the tank to just dump into it :eek1:
The cosmic rays of the new tank are already warming my toes it's that close!! :celeb3: The motivation, nervousness and stress lol is building but it's mostly all excitable and good!! I've got a little more time now that uni is winding down so I'm going to dedicate some serious hours into getting this right, including having an amazingly organised cabinet and sump haha
God love'em indeed lol even if he's terrible at it, I am appreciative that he does put some effort into feeding them when he remembers :crazy1: I think it'll make a little bit of difference with me taking care instead lol

There's a big old list of do's and don't's that I have written down Perry :) I think the last three years of reefing has taught me quite a lot about tanks and the way I reef, so I'm hoping the cumulative experience from all of that will lead to some vast improvements in the way I run things!
The new corner is a scary and exciting thing that I am greatly looking forward too! Especially the options that it will be opening up in terms of fish stock and being able to do some more frags of things that I get pestered for so frequently haha

Dom i wish you all the best :D
having the tank near you will definitly make it better... just the tank... for you there is no hope :lolspin:
