500 gal in-wall

I am planning the same size tank 96x36x30 but after much research I am going to go with acrylic due to cost and weight. As it will be an inwall there is no way that I want to try and move a tank that size into the basement even if it is a walkout.

I really like your rock placement. How do you figure 12-15k for the setup? I feel you are very high

That's the plan.. If I figure high, I will have more left over to spend of fish and corals.. That is the budget the wife gave me... LOL Also, the automation equipment will cost a little bit. But, I figure over estimate that way if something goes wrong I have the $$ to fix it..

Have you recieved a quote for acrylic yet? My only fear with acrylic is scratcges.. If it is an in-wall tank, I dont want to have to replace it because it got to scratched up..

12-15K is definitely in line. I am almost done with my 240 and I will hit 12k with no livestock. If you are pushing the automated angle it is not cheap.

Good plan!

Setting money aside for unexpected bumps in the road is always--and this doesnt just aply to reefing--a worthwile investment!
Its the unexpected that gets us. and if something goes wrong, you dont want to be caught without the funding to fix it. Way to plan ahead :D

Hey, Do you guys think that two Sequence ReeFlo Barracuda (for return pumps, and one Sequence ReeFlo Dart Pump would be enough flow?

The two return pumps will be running to 4 wavy sea's, and the dart will run 3 seperate pcv spray bars under my rock.

Ths should be enough flow right? I am planning on having mixed corals, including sps and clams.

I have been tossing around the 96x36x30 as well for a tank. Acrylic vs glass. There is a forum just on that subject alone and most seem to agree if you have the money go glass. Everyone I talk to worries about the cleaning and climbing into the tank of this size but I have seen 36" tanks and they are awesome to look at. I have had 2 different glass companies tell me that 3/4" is the thickness for that size of a tank. Then you have to consider the weight. The tank alone will be 900-1000 pounds for glass.

I have been remodling my house to fit a large tank into and am just starting the quoting process but it is looking at anywhere from 3-6,000 for a glass tank. Your 12k is definetly a realistic number when all is said and done.

I think thats enough flow. :)
If you want super flow you could add one more dart and have the returns through the sand. - Just athought. But then youd have to change your avitar to MAN WITH SUPER FLOW! LOL :)
