Hi ALL I have a FW tank that I am thinking of turning into a SW tank my question is what kind and how many SW fish can I put into a tank that size? I would like to make it a even tank between a Yellow Head Eel,Dog Face Puffer,and a bunch of sand,Live rock
Tank is 8 foot long 4 foot high 2 foot wide,and runs off of 2 1800GPH pumps in a sump(3600 GPH turn over,Electric bill proves that.....LOL)

Thanks

Is this correct? :eek1:

Only 2' wide and 4' high ... not the other way around?

The tank runs off of 2 sumps and 4 power heads for flow the tank is 8 foot long 4 foot high 2 foot wide dimentions show 475 gal as for 10 to 30 times the flow I do believe 3600 ghp is more then that,I do have over flow tubes and plan on 2 more sumps this way I would have 4 sumps and more water flow.

Kruzz,
I've got a 3 foot tall 400G reef. It's a lot harder to clean a SW than a FW. Hope you like diving. :D

As for the flow, I have 2 hammerhead pumps pushing over 10,000 GPH in my tank and it's still not enough. For fish you might not need as much but you still want some good flow.

Go check out the large tank forum and the FOWLR forum. You can get some good ideas in there by reading some of the various build threads. Good luck.

Oh and big fish poop big. :D I'm running a swimming pool filter to help with that part. :D

I dont mind the diving part I already went into the tank in swim trunks and goggles while the fish were in there(FW Oscars) How did you hook up a swimming pool filter I would like to try that might help out with the filtration part as it is I clean my sumps once a month and add bacteria bi-weekly.

Thanks

There's some info and pics in my thread here;

I have it plumbed on a C/L system. Intake is thru two strainers in the bottom that stick up slightly above the sand. That flows into the pump and large hayward swimming pool cartdridge filter. It then goes into 4 returns in the tank. The preivous woner had used the filer, I just put it into a C/L system as it gave me some peie of mind. I clean the filter about twice a week. any longer and it gets packed and dosen't flow much.
