500G (84X48X30)- NOW REAL !

Sanjay,
perhaps more dither fish would help? A school of green chromis or something to distract the anthias... or some other wrasses to keep the wrasses diffused.

Kind of reminds me of keeping Tanganyikan African Cichlids where every species is more deadly to its own kind than other species... sometimes more space can be more of a problem: There are two ways to do it, one, is to keep the fish matched up well and give enough space to everything... pretty much what most people do with their reefs. This does allow for breeding and faster growth. The other way is to overcrowd. It sounds bad, but it really works well. The idea is to have such a flock and mix of various species in the tank that no one fish can be singled out, and no one fish can bully the entire tank. Fish cant set up territories to defend as easy, and wear themselves out faster if they do.

Maybe you need more fish. You see some of these tanks sometimes with a whole flock of tangs with 12 different species and they all seem to get along, or 6 types of anthias, and 6 types of wrasse. Maybe you need to crowd them more. The only other thing i can see is to start manipulating their territories, but what would that be exactly since you are pretty much sporting a bunch of rock pillars, not caves and such?

Came home from work to another dead anthias. This one did not seem like it got shredded in a fight. I am now begining to suspect the interceptor treatment that I did on the tank yesterday may have something to do with it.

Are anthias senstive to this treatment ? or did they ingest some of the undissolved particles of the medication ?

Now down to one anthias.

Well it may be time to add more fish.

Did you disolve the interceptor in something first? I can't recall what Bornemann suggests although I've never done it as I've only treated in a salt bucket for 12 hours when I get a frag. If there were small particles floating they could have been ingested. Whether that hurts them or not ??

come on all chant " MORE FISH .... MORE FISH"

Well, when you live in the boonies as far as fish stores are concerned, its not easy to get fish without having them shipped.

Took out the tomini, and now the duncansapomia can finally open up again.

I tried to get the fish store to order me a Vroliki (Half Black) Mimic and this is what I got. Any mimic tang experts out there that can verify if this is a Vroliki mimic, or once they get past a certain age and morph into the tang look it does not matter where they start out. ?

Sanjay,
that is A.pyroferus...which is the Vrolkii mimic tang....that one is showing adult coloration.

So it does not matter what form of mimic it starts out as - they all end up looking the same ?

LOL...

I'd love a Keven Carpenter sized tank, but the reality of situation, (economics) prevent that.

Actually, I'm in the middle of setting up a 120 gallon...so bigger than my current, but not nearly as large as Sanjay's tank...

Basically what I'm doing is watching all these gorgeous large tanks and plotting/planning and ...uhm...uh..."borrowing" ideas and methods of doing things. I'll start a thread in the SEASL/SLASH forums when I get closer to having something to show for my efforts.

Sorry for the hijack....

:D

all the same, a beautiful fish Sanjay.

Any of you tang experts know why my orange shoulder's color change has stalled half way through? When I got it, it was yellow. Months and months later it is still mostly yellow with the orange shoulder and a slighlty darkened posterior. At night it turns almost black, but it has been so long and I don't understand why it is taking so long.

Sounds like your tang is has a drug problem. You should see if its hanging out with other 'bad' fish. Its hard to tell at first, but if its showing signs of depression... outbursts of anger, fin nipping, and at other times listlessness and just drifting with the current as if to be just staring up at the lights... your tang could be at risk. You may not be able to see it, but there usually is a rock or cave where they all meet... hidden from the other fish. An intervention may be the only solution... catch the tang, put it in a QT and give it antidepressants. Let it know that its okay if its not as pretty as some of the other fish, and you will still feed it.

Maybe that's why it's spitting sand all over the corals?

That is the one main reason I do not like to keep orange shoulder tangs. They have this bad habit of picking up sand and spitting it. Some of the gobies do it too and it get annoying.

I had no idea about that when I got it of course, and my female maroon clown is a freak about digging s, macro, coral etc. away from her charges and expelling it at me with intense prejudice. Between the two of them I have to always keep an eye on my encrusting montis to make sure they aren't getting loaded up. I sort of have a FOWL end of my tank where all this action happens. (the maroon hates most corals and will toss them out of her "zone")

Sanjay, your tank is looking fantastic and your photos are excellent. Can you share your secrets on camera and taking photos?
