Hi Sanjay,

I've googled with every key word I could think of and I can't find hardly any information about the serranus.

This is all I found.

Searching for Serranus Annularis I found this basslet.

Is this the fish that you have?

Thanks!

I do have the serranus annularis (orange bass), actually 2 of them. But the picture I posted is of a different serranus that I was told by the importer that it has not yet been named/classified.

Live aquaria has one of these on thier site in the diver's den.

How cool is that? You get a fish that isn't even classified yet. Do you get to provide input into the classification?

I suggest:

Serranus awesomeredlineous

:D

Here are some more pics of the serranus that I added.

This is an Serranus Annularis (Orange back bass). i added two of these.

the other bass I added is another serranus sp. I was told it was not yet fully named. An awesome fish as you can see from the colors and patterns.

Some more reasons to keep the clarion out of the main reef. I am diversifying out of acros.

hey i dont know if this has been asked but do you have any updates on the skimmer?

No updates on the skimmer. Other than its been sitting unused since September. I finally got the Red Dragon 2000 needlewheel pump (upgraded from the smaller version that I had), and need to finish the hookups for the pump.

Now that the semester will be over this week, I'll have more time to play and catch up with the light testing backlog :D

Holy crap, I think you have the single largest amount of cespitularia in the whole US! By my calculations, that colony is worth more than $5000.

That new serranus is beautiful! Can you tell us any particulars about it? Size at maturity, is it a deep water fish, food that it eats, etc. Like you said, LA has one for sale. I'm interested but only if I know how to take care of it. :)

How has it been behaving in your tank? Have you observed it picking on corals, other fish, inverts?

Sorry for all the questions. It really is an awesome fish and I'd like to know more about it. :)

All the rest of your pictures are amazing! Beautiful specimans. I'm jealous. :)

OK.. here is what I was told about the fish.

"they come from deeper water - around 100ft. They are not yet described scientifically. max size is smaller than 3". It can and will eat small shrimp. It was imported from W. Africa."

I have had it in the tank for about 3 weeks now. The fish is bold, and aggressive eater. Loves to attack the food. Eats everything I throw into the tank. It likes to perch and hang out among the rocks, but comes out into the open water quite a bit. Its got a big mouth so small shrimp would become a tasty meal. My shrimp are quite big and it has not bothered them. It has not bothered any of the other fish either.

Its not a common fish in the trade, so not a whole lot is known about it.

I guess I should sell 1/2 of it at this price and get myself another Clarion :D
