Yes, they tend to have preference to specific corals, but when the numbers get out of hand (when I slacked off for 2 months) they get on other corals too.

But generally, with routine maintenance of blasting them off, its usually the milliporas, and the humilis/gemifera that I find they have a preference for.

I would not say I do not do water changes. I do them, but rather sporadically. I really do need to get back on a more regular schedule of 75G per month. Right now its more like 10-15G a week to 10 days when I dump out all the water from my nano cube, and refil it with old water from the 500G, and replace the water there.

Based on the fantastic growth and color of your corals, and overall appearence of your tank, I decided to follow your lead and I installed two 400 watt Giesemann megachrome coral lamps (rated at 14.5K) on Icecap electronic ballasts, over my tank.

They've only been running about 10 hours now, and they look a little yellow to me. Did you experience this? Do they just need to burn in longer?

Sanjay, I have read both threads about your build, fantastic !!! Got a few questions that may have already been answered but I may have missed them . So here they are: 1)The base that you used on your coral pillars look like pavers. If so, were you not worried that they may leach out any of the pigments sometimes used in the manufacturing process?
2)Mh seem to be you choice for lighting have you ever tried LED fixtures. I would value your opinion on these ,see review: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2007/10/review/view
3)What are you using for Ca.
4)Besides the scratch issue, that really was not an issue, (Great customer service) anything else with that you would of done differently with the tank? I have one on order from John at AO

The paver stones I used were the regular grey ones and I was not too worried about any leaching of dyes.

The LED fixtures of today would be very cost prohibitive to light a 500G tank. I am using a Solaris on a 29G tank (first generation) and its good for soft corals and LPS.

I am using a Calcium reactor for Ca and Alk.

I would probably eliminate the closed loop and go with more vortech pumps for flow.

Time for some coral updates.

Here are some of the non acroporid corals that I have in my tank. As you can see I am expanding this collection more than the acros. Any dead acros are being replaced by some of these really beautiful corals.
