500G (84X48X30)- NOW REAL !

Sanjay:

wonderful photos. more fodder for my screensaver.

i noticed in your photos that some of the corals do not have their polyps extended. do they extend only at night as in the wild?

do you take the pictures during the day with the lights on and pumps running?

does the flash affect polyp extension in the photos?

Carl

Yes, not all corals extend thier polyps during the day. I used to have more polyp extension when the tank was new (upto about 8-9 months after set up). But since then the polyp extension has reduced. Could also be due to the 2 joculators I added around that time. Lack of polyp extension during the day does not seem to affect growth.

All my pictures are taken without a flash with the lights on and all pumps running.

I've noticed the same. Little picking here and there (by angels) will obviously cause lack of PE, but it does not seem to hinder growth.

Nothing is wrong with the cyphastrea. It growing on a white tile (that is how I got the frag) so the tissue looks very thin and pale due to light reflection from the white tile. It will look much better once it starts growing on the rocks.

ah, got it. I have seen mine change its flesh color over time but the white on yours kind of looked like disease. Quite a while ago I had asked you about the structure of another one, since mine looked a lot different. After about 2 - 3 months, mine has changed and looks a lot more like yours. Prior it was much flatter without the severe polyp protrusions (can't think of the correct term right now).

Sanjay, just wanted to let you know that your tank is amazing! And even though I have not posted before it has always been an inspiration to me.

Here are some more wider area shots with some full tank shots too.
