500G (84X48X30)- NOW REAL !

Sanjay,

All I can say is "WOW". The coral shots look professional....good thing we can see more in Tony's new book. ;)

Hey Sanjay. Hope you are doing well. I went back to the beginning and re-read some of the thread. Great planning, great input, fantastic execution. How is the tank comming along?

I've gotten such a terrible outbreak of majano's I'm debating drastic changes. I tried a file fish, but he died after 3 weeks and never touched a single majano. I chickened out on a racoon butterfly. *sigh*.

I'm not sure if I'm going to make it up to Iowa this year, but how would you like a paid trip to Dallas round February 12? ;) See you later.

Any trip to a warm place in Winter sounds like a great idea. :spin1:

may i ask about your closed loop.
i know your running a dart feeding your 3 sea swirls and a normal output.
but at 1 time i thought you were running 2 dart pumps for Closed loop.
if your running 2, do you leave them on all the time, or do you cycle them on and off every 12 hours or so?
just curious.
and do you still like your Closed loops? would you suggest them to another large tank person, or are you liking the ecotechs more?
thanks!

I am running 2 closed loops - each one uses a dart. One of them feeds back through 2 sea swirls and the other feeds back through a fixed return and a sea swirl.

I do not cycle them on/off, since they are primarily returning through the sea swirls and the action of the sea swirls creates the randomness.

I still like the closed loops as they an easy way to move a lot of water, and potentially cheaper in terms of pump costs. I love the Vortech too, and as the tank has grown I have added several more Vortech to increase the flow. Adding more closed loops after the fact is hard. I think all methods have their pluses and minus and can be made to work well with some good design and initial thoughts in the design. For the size and power consumption and the amount of water they can move the Vortech are awesome.

Sanjay, first off.. Let me start by saying beautiful tank. I would love to have something that size to expand on some day. I need to camera like that soon :D

Second, do you know where i may be able to find a Joculator? I absolutely love them and cannot find any. Also, what would i be looking at in price range?

I have not looked for them in a while and do not see them as often. I saw one on Liveaquaria a few weeks ago. My guess is somewhere in the $600-$700 range.

Here is what my tank looked like before the removal of corals...

I guess this means there is a little room for new corals

Wow, those colonies are incredible!!! They came from frags didn't they? I'm curious, what do you have planned for them?

The entire project is incredible. Quite the inspiration.

These were all grown from frags, over 4+ years.

They were removed because they had become too big for the tank. They were killing a lot of the acros below them by shading. The table was growing out of the water, had become so large that it was collecting debris in the middle that was killing it, although it was growing over the dead areas. They were taking up too much real estate.

The corals were all donated to Atlantis Marine World (now Long Island Aquarium) and are on display in the "Sanjay Wing" of the 20,000G reef there :-).

Now I some room for new frags :-)
