500G (84X48X30)- NOW REAL !

Well, this thread has been without pictures for a while, and its slipping on the wood glue :D

Time for some updates.

Not a lot happening.. other than the corals millimetering themselves into growth. The stupid tomini tang has developed the bad habit of picking on my duncansapomia frags. My feeding of the coral may have triggered this behaviour. Now everytime he passes by the coral he has to suck on the polyps and not let them open. Argh.. that fish may have to go, or the coral moved elsewhere.

Tank may have red bugs. Turns out the penn state tank has red bugs and I got corals from there, so there is a very strong possibility that I have them in my tank. I was quite surprised to find that, since the corals there are doing really well and and growing like they want to reach out of the water.

So i will treat my tank just to be safe. But before treating the tank I decieded I should just add some more corals and then treat the whole tank.

Did get 21 frags today from live aquaria (19 sps and 2 soft) I liked thier frags from my past experience with them and decieded to do it again.

As usual they came in packed really well. Its always nice to see that the boxes are not wet and dripping.

I was a bit concerned about the cold.. given that the temperatures here have dropped to the single digit at night, and it has to be colder in Wisconsin. They were packed really well.. tripple bagged + thick black poly, and 5 heat packs to keep them warm.

here they are waiting in the sink to be opened.

Now open !! and getting ready for a quick group photo

Now, i am off to glue them and do some aquascaping and fill up some more real estate.

Ha ha ha.... you have red bugs!!! Okay, that seems mean, but it makes me feel soooo much better because after I turned on the lights last night to check how my flatworm exit was working, I saw several acros just swarming with the little b@$t@rds! So I checked the other tanks... sure enough. That explains why some corals have packed up and were losing color! What is odd is that I must have had them for a long time.... its been months since I have put anything new in. They must take a while to develop.

So I contacted F&S, as you can see... I have had quite a time trying to get a local vet to write a scrip.

I need interceptor!!!

We got the Penn State vet to get the interceptor for the penn state tank, also told them that since we use my tank as a back up and vice versa, we need to treat both tanks. :)

I could have just used the medium dog tablets that I have for my dog.

Here is what the frags look like in better lighting. sitting in my overflow box waiting to be put in the tank.

Nah.... University Grant Money!!

Unfortunately, the univ grant money does not go into my pocket nor does it pay for corals that go into my tank.

Here are the pics of the 2 soft corals that I got from Live aquaria

1) neon pineapple tree (capanella sp ? according to live aquaria)

2) purple passion tree coral (neospongodes). i have always liked this coral. I used to have a peice I got from Tony vargas, but we both don't ahve this one any more. So I was glad to find it again.

neospongodes is a softie ? I know that spongodes is a montipora (or is that a spognodes ?), but had not heard of a neospongodes... it is a nice looking coral. where do you keep it in your tank ? (high, low, etc)

neospongodes=dendronepthea?

i have one too.... teeny weeny frag... i havent had it long, doesnt seem to do much so far.

I have it at the bottom of my tank. Its photosynthetic so it is easier to keep than the dendro. I used to have piece that I got as a frag from Tony, and it was growing well in his tank and the piece I got more than quadrupled in size before succumbing to a rather stupid accident.

Its not a dendronepthea, and my past experience with it seems to indicate it does well in captive reefs.
