50g Clown/Anemone Build

Please follow along as I create my first anemone clownfish tank.

A little bit of history, I purchased my first Rose BTA back in January 2013. A 4 inch beauty. It then split into 2 as pictured here:

Then into 3. Fast forward 2 years and I now have 3 Pizza pie sized anemones. The largest opened at about 20 inches.

New 50g tank will be setup directly next my 120g display, with the systems filtration linked together.

Equipment wise I'm sticking with what that seems to just work with these Roses. MP10s with random current patterns and Metal Halide lighting.

My first big question with setting up a species tank is, how many different clowns can you keep in the same tank with out starting a war?

My ideal situation is to move two of my pizza pie nems into the new tank, adding a third green bta to breakup all the pink.

Stocking, I was hoping to go with all natural hosts and add 6 clowns.

A pair of Cinnamon, Clarkii's and a pair of Tomato's

Will that work? Has anyone tried that? Tank should be here in two weeks, glass cages starphire. More then and thanks for the input!

Stick with one pair of clowns in that size tank; especially with aggressive species like the ones you are wanting. Nice roses btw, will be a nice tank once setup.

Makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the feedback.

Would a less aggressive species like ocellaris work if I wanted to go for a group of clowns?

You could attempt a perc or ocellaris harem, but it's far from guaranteed. IMO, although it may work out for a few months, eventually they will start picking off the weakest one by one until you are left with a pair.

Built the system over the last few days. All went well. My Nems spawned the two days before I moved them. Eggs and Sperm clouded my entire display.

Decided to go with a pair of Cinnamon clowns for the new build. The male is tiny!

Enjoy!

Starts with a tank! 50g Starphire from Glasscages.com

Clown and Nem pics in the new system. Picked up some clowns today. They hosted both RBTAs inside of 45 minutes of entering tank.

Comments on build and equipment choice welcome. Thanks!

Very nice! I have a similar build on a smaller scale (IM Nuvo 20) at my campus office with a dozen smaller RBTA's and a great pair of very yellow clarki clowns, and it looks fantastic while being relatively easy to keep up with.

You have plenty of room on the right for another species of nem or some corals - good luck!
