Yup That Stuff
hey guys,

i was wondering what this ment for this lense. it says it is a 1:2 magnification but it says 1:1 with lifesize converter EF? just wondering. i am looking into a decent macro for a little cheeper than the 100mm :worried: . thanks

any one???

also i am wondering the difference between a cannon imported lens and a cannon usa lense??

You can do macro with the 50, what you give up is working distance. You have to be closer. That's why the 100 is preferred for tank shots. If you're taking a picture of a bug you can just move closer. That's hard to do with glass and water in the way.

Next question. USA lenses are designed for the US market and carry full manufacturers warranties. The "imported lenses" are not made for the US so you can't send them to Canon for warranty repair. Those are often referred to as "grey market" lenses. Depending on the seller, they might include a 3rd party warranty but I'm not sure that I'd want to rely on that. Example: I just got my 24-70 back from Canon for an out of warranty repair. Anything that you have to send them will cost at least $150. That's often more than the difference in price between US and imported.

interesting. thanks beerguy...guess ill keep saving for the 100mm...i appreciate your input. thanks

For macro, 1:1 means it will project a lifesize image on the sensor. For example, if you took a picture of a fly, it would be like a fly landed on your sensor. When that image is then blown up to full size, you can imagine the effect.

it is a 1:2 magnification but it says 1:1 with lifesize converter EF

What this means is that it projects an image 1/2 actual size, but can go actual size with an add on converter.

Get the 100mm, especially for tank shots. If your have to wait and save an extra 3 months then thats just what you have to do. You'll be much happier IMO.
