I'm really hoping that I can keep some of them alive!
I have some in a 1gal pickle jar and some in a 1.5gal plastic tank. I'm feeling newly hatched decapsulaed baby brine and also rotifers. I plan on doing 100% water changes every 2-3 days. I have a couple of 2.5gal tanks that I might use, but I'm not sure yet.
Please let me know if there is anything I should change or that you recommend as I am a newby to seahorse fry.

Ha ha, you counted them all! Congrats RedAnt! I hope you have multiple hatcheries set up for that many babies. Even with just 22 they eat a lot of bb.
 
Honestly, with that many fry in each tank, I would do 100% water changes at least once a day. I mean, 512 (gosh, that is ridiculous! Poor daddy!) fry can eat a heck of a lot, and being seahorses, will be very messy about it.

Personally, I would go ahead and divide them up further into those two-gallon tanks. That would mean that the fry had less competition for food, and would also keep the water quality under control.

However, I have no experience raising fry, so keep in mind that my advice is just given out of what I have heard from those who do.

Yep my wife counted them from a pic I took when they were still in a 2gal bucket after getting them out of the adult tank. I was pretty shocked when my wife said how many it was! I was thinking it looked like maybe 200... I was way off :) So far it seems like the ones in the jar are not floating as much, the small square tank has a ton that have an air bubble in their belly so they will most likely die soon. I've only had a few die so far, but I'm sure as the days go on it's gonna get a lot worse. We got another pickle jar so I can maybe separate them a little bit more. Now I'm not as sure about using the square tanks since they have so much more room to float and get the air bubble. At least it will be a good experiment with using both. I'll make sure to try to keep this updated. Depending on how it goes I might just use a bunch of pickle jars like Ray had.
Oh and it looks like my other male is pregnant now so I'm gonna be getting some more practice in a couple of weeks! :)
 
They are H. erectus. I had probably at least a hundred today. There's a bunch that I'm expecting to die over the next day or two :(
 
That is awesome-get ready for WORK. ha ha But fun watching them grow. Can we get a pic of the parents? That is HUGE amount of fry for H. Erectus but it has happened before.
 
In my experience it's quite normal for erectus to have over 500 fry, but not until they are about 5 inches or larger.
 
Just for example, one male about 8 months old, produced 179 for the first batch.
Second batch was around 200 but not actually counted.
Third batch,310.
Now, the fourth batch just born I haven't counted yet but again it should be 300+ from the looks of things.
 
Good luck, I am trying to raise my first batch also, H Reidi. They are also on mostly rotis and fresh hatched bbs. Day 3 coming to an end now and bellies full of orange bbs. This has been fun for something I thought I would never mess with.

I don't plan on doing nearly that many water changes, and not 100%. Some of us have day jobs, LOL

They are doing well so far, very few losses in two of the three tanks they are split between. The crazy thing is he is already swelling up with ther next batch.

It seems like more are getting bubbles in their bellies, any thoughts on why? They'll be a week old on Monday and it is starting to look like at least around a hundred have the bubble. I can pretty much assume they will die. I was considering an experiment of taking those and somehow keeping them at the bottom of the 1gal pickle jar to add more external pressure in hopes it may disperse the air out. Has anyone tried that yet?

Is the bubble causing them harm? Like are they floating abnormally or something? If not, they re most likely OK, you may just be noticing their swim bladder.

I didn't think rots could keep the babies going. What do you enrich the rots and bbs with?
