I have a Dart on a CL for a 120 (4x2x2) and its definately not enough. If I had to do it over again I would go with the 'cuda or hammerhead.

True, but that is also over twice the size of my tank. I am starting to think a Dart might be the way to go for a 53.

its always to have alot of flow, you can always tone it down with a ball valve if its too much, so go with the barracuda :)

Personally, I don't like turning down the flow with ball valves only because on some pumps, that can raise the watts used.

But am still considering using the Barracuda or Hammerhead but man, 1.4 amps on the Dart sounds nice! But heck I can get more flow out of the SHE2.4 and only pull 1.9 amps...hmmm, choices.

what about a panworld pump? how they compare?

if you go w/ any of them i'm sure the dart would be plenty

Panworld doesn't put out enough flow for the watts they use. The Dart would be good and might use it.

i didnt' look. dart would be nice. i have thought about getting rid of the Iwaki 55rlt for a bigger pump....guess i should look into that...but i'm too lazy to change all the plumbing :D

Yeah, I am really not looking forward to plumbing all of this up but hey, it'll be worth it in the end.

Probably take the 58 down this weekend and get ready to start the 53. Once my UV gets here I can start plumbing but ain't gonna touch a piece of plumbing until I have all parts so I can really think about it.

I've gotta go this weekend and get some baffles cut for my new sump. I also need to go to HD and get some wood to add on to my stand. I am going to add a 14" wide piece on the back to set the closed loop pump on. I was gonna put it in the closet behind the tank but it's just easier access right behind the tank.

I think if you do a Dart definately go with a 2" intake and personally I would do 2 1.5" returns. I have 4 1" returns and its pretty low flow IMO.

Oh yeah, I am putting in a Oceans Motions 4 way so only 2 returns will be flowing at any given time. I actually plan to plumb it like the picture below. The top two will be from my return pointed straight down the back running all the time.

The two at the back bottom will run, then switch to the two in the front. The two in the back will push across the bottom and the two out front will blow up the rock work. This works two fold. 1st, it pulls crap off the bottom of the tank and puts it up near the overflow and it also helps move food across the corals.

PLUS, it keeps the flow pretty random.

Acrylic. Center overflow on the back wall. The tank should be waiting for me at the house. I had a 1" drain installed in the overflow and I am handling all of the bulkheads so I can put them where I want them. :D

Macnreef, you could probably run a 160ish watt panworld with Eductors on it, and get as much flow as you'd get from a Dart.

That being said, the Sequence pumps seem to be cheaper, and more efficient than the sweetwater pumps.

Cheaper yes, more efficient, no.

SHE2.4 pulls 1.9 amps and puts out 4200 gph
Barracuda pulls 2.6 amps (at best) and puts out 4500 gph

Warranty is a little better on the Reeflo...thats a good thing and is much cheaper!!! Hmmmm....good points to think about.

I run a Pan World 150-PS (1100gph, 28' head, 180w) powering 2 3/4" eductors and all I can say is WOW.

After calculating it out....

6gpm flowing out EACH eductor (after head and friction loss)
6x4 = 24gpm, 24gpm x 2 (eductors) = 48gpm... 48x60 = 2880gph turnover.
