55 Fowlr

In Memoriam
Hi all,

I'm thinking about stocking my newly aquascaped 55 FOWLR with the following fish:

Lyretail Anthias
Green Chromis
Blue Chromis

Questions:
1. Are these fish compatible?
2. How many of each should I purchase?
- I believe 1 Male Anthias and 2+ Females
- I'm thinking 10 Chromis (mix)
3. Is that too many fish? How many total fish could be sustained in my tank?

The tank used to have puka shell substrate and about 20 lbs of LR. I've upgraded the lighting and added 50 lbs LR and a large helping of live sand (bye bye puka shell). This was thanks to a fellow reefer from San Diego tearing down his tank last month.

Thanks,
Stan

1) Chromis and Anthias, would say, are the most docile species in the hobby you can get. They're compatible with each other and pretty much anything else (provided it doesn't eat them!)

2) That depends on your filtration. As the current tank of the month proves, you can have tons of fish as long as they have room to swim and your filtration can handle it. That many chromis in that size tank would require a good sized skimmer for nutrient export. Anthias generally don't do well in that small of a tank because they like to have room to swim, but I have seen it done before.

3) See 2.

Personally, I tend to lean towards keeping standout individual species rather than schools, but that's just my thoughts. Also, with those choices of fish, it wouldn't be a problem for you to turn a FOWLR into a reef (provided you have the adequate equipment).

Good luck!

I like the individual species concept of putting a tank together although i would say that the introduction of my 8 blue/green chromis made the other inhabitants less skittish.
