Adnup,

Can you give more details on how you made the doors? I know you used the pocket hole jig. But did you cut groves in the inside of the door frame for the laun to fit into? If so, how did you cut the groves? A router or did you use a table saw?

I am just trying to figure out how you attached the laun to the door frame and made it look so nice. (-:

Cheers,
Chris

Chris from Fins, right? I was in a couple of weeks ago looking at those BIG acros. With my wife and daughter.

Anyway I made them on a table saw. I dont have a dado blade  so I had to make two cuts for each one. Alittle off center and then flip it over and run it through again.

Adnup,

Nope, I am not Chris from Fins. It would be a great place to work though.

Thanks are the update. Now, it makes perfect sense. I really like your handy work. Great job. Keep it up.

Thanks,
Chris

Ya, ya, ya. Tell it to the judge. I'm still waiting, too.

Have a picture of your rocks?

Here are some pics of some of my rocks:

adnup, I like your new mag mounts. When are you going to start on the skimmer ? I know this is an on a budget thread ,so cost is a factor. Ted

Just out of interest and it may help me answer a question i posted on anther thread, what stops the water flowing back down the inlet if the pump stops? (sorry if thats a dumb question)

Great work by the way, good ideas for us newbies :)

Because the tank is drilled, it will drain until the water level is below the top of the built in overflow. If there wasn't a built in overflow, it would drain to the bottom of the bulkhead. If it was a syphon overflow, it would drain like the first option, but once the pump started back up, it would flood your tank. Unless you add some sort of automatic syphon starter (IE pumps, hoses, etc.)

Thanks Travis, i guess what i meant was. The inlet back into the tank is at the almost at the same level as the outlet but does not have the overflow weir in place, so i guess the tank would just empty to the level of the inlet hole back into the sump?

But looking back at the first pictures, the inlet a is a little higher than i thought, so there would be little drainage?

adnup, I just ordered my new top trim piece for my 55g because the middle bar broke from the number you provided, thanks! Can you go over how you replaced it again? I wasn't sure when you said about using a dremmel to cut something it the middle. and how did you mount the new one on.

OOOoohhh.. You mean a back syphon? I'm not too sure what adnup is going to do about back syphon. Well, adnup? What are you going to do about it?

The tank will drain until the return line is out of the water. I set the water level in the sump so that there is enough room for that volume of water to fit in the sump without overflowing. As fas as power being restored the return pump just fills the tank until it runs into the overflow, then that fill until the drain starts and all is good again.

Living in Florida I'm aware of power outages :D

I found it to be easy this way, not that its the right way

I just used a cut off wheel on my dremel and cut right down the top center of the trim then used a gasket scraper(and flat screwdriver would work) and pryed it off. Some big pieces and some were little...
To put it on I used silicone(lots) and filled the channel on the new trim and squished it on. Let it dry a couple of days and your good to go!

I want to start soon! Maybe I'll have to sell some more frags  or even some mag mounts to fund it. :bum:

Hey adnup, all you did was paint the inside white? That looks amazing, going to steal your design hope you dont mind :D What tools did you use to hold it all together?

Great thread :)

I think I'm going to make a stand much like yours.

If I were to take my tank to a glass place, how expensive do you think it'd be to get it drilled? (I just bought the tank yesterday, waiting to do anything to it till I figure out how to get it drilled!)
