Hey no problem. One of the tanks I put it on had enough distance from the overflow teeth to the rim of the tank so the float wasn't touching water during normal operating conditions. If you want to get tricky you can even install the float in the overflow box in the tank side. It will be more of a challenge to mount it but as long as it is set right and on the inside of the tank it will stop you from having a flood every single time.

i just set up my 55gal 4 months ago
my equipment is:
lifereef overflow (700gph)
15 gal sump
mag 9.5 return
reef dynamics INS-80 skimmer
4 bulb 54watt each Aquatic Life T5 HO with auto timer
2 aqueon power heads 1-700gph and 1-250gph
75lbs or rock. mostly marco. also went to the LFS and found rocks of shapes i needed
40lbs of live reef sand
i also have a uv sterilizer that im hooking up soon.
my current stocking is FOWLR
1 marine betta
2 fuzzy dwarf lionfish
1 ghost ribbon eel
