Well this was an interesting read on what not to do at times! Glad to see your tank and sanity made it through the cycle! Also as for the "white bumps" that tends to be from marine ich. Have you read the ich stickies and the such? Also from everything I've read, which has been an overload of info in the last almost 2 months, I wouldn't recommend ever dosing your DT with remedies or the such. Take the sick fish out and put him in your clean empty QT to try to get him over it. If it is ich and it has had time to go through its stages your entire sandbed may be infected which for the most part means no fish in DT for 10 to 12 weeks!
 
I was under the understanding that you can not mix two different clown variations together.. Could be the source of the clown problem there
 
Same species clowns so they can and had actually formed a bond. However they are both juvies too so less agro... Not ich BTW, ich is on gills or gill covers not the body...gonna treat for flatworms tomorrow and do a 100% water change before the shipment I ordered a week ago arrives... *Sigh* so far I've gotten through everything. I'm praying hard on this one. Been so busy plus a vacation, haven't given tank the care it really needs.

Not wanting to debate or the such, simply trying to help, you may want to read this as ich is a parasite which feeds anywhere on the body of the fish much like a tic on a dog. It can hide in and around the gills thus giving is the aquarist a false hope that it's been taken care of. Not something to play with as it can compromise your entire system.

Dont want to hijack thread but the black clown is the same species as the normal looking one?

I have a pair of false perculas, is there any juvies of a different color variation that are considered the same species?

I always assumed if it looked different, it was different
 
Both are ocelarus (SPL?) One black, one regular... As for ich, from what I read it doesn't appear on the back and fins, but on face and gills. Its bacterial...if its on the back and fins... I could be wrong though fish seems fine.
 
Where ever you read that ICH doesn't appear on the back an fins and is bacterial, you need to neve get any info from there again. ICH is a parasite and can most definitely appear all over a fish's body. If your clowns have ICH, then your entire tank is infected and every other fish you put in there will get ICH.

Read that in an ich thread... Just like the one you are referencing, not sure I remember which one... Not everything is ich, and its not good to treat for the wrong thing.... The melafix worked, I just wasn't able to finish the treatment, so it came back.
 
If you want to treat the fish than you should move them to a QT. Medicating your DT is not the best idea, especially with such a young tank. In fact, you shouldn't be dosing anything at this point. The Melafix is antifungal and antibacterial. You want bacteria in your tank, adding medication into the DT could kill some of the bacteria you want. Plus Melafix won't do a thing for ICH.
 
And now he looks worse, so moved to qt ... Cleaned tank and did 99% water change, rearranged rocks as I couldn't remember exactly how I got them in the first time.

Sadly no, can't figure out why everything but fish is multiplying in my tank, the fish keep dying. I need help. I've done everything I've been told to do and everything I've read up on. My inverts are breeding, my corals were happy till I went on vacation and lost my only two fish :-\

ich can last without a host for 6-8 weeks... NO FISH IN YOUR DISPLAY until that time period is over... qt, qt, qt, qt, qt.... while that wont gaurentee you wont get ich again it will help..

and never never never medicate the display... that's what qt is for
 
also that gorg is going to require a constant food source with pristine water conditions... very tough to keep alive in a non dedicated nps tank... can be done... just spot feed it multiple times per day
 
was someone watching your tank when you went on vacay? do u have an ato or do u manually top off with fresh rodi daily?
 
I am very sorry to hear about your losses, and it must be hard for your daughter. Do not dismay, leave your tank fishless like wireefman said. Read the stickies on the ICH life cycle to get and idea of how long you should leave your tank fallow. Use the time to get your tank tweekd to support livestock and care for the existing corals.

I've read through this thread from the beggining and it seemd that you were a little resistant to some good advice offered by experianced reefers on this forum. Nobody is trying to lead you astray, everyone wants to see you succeed and enjoy your tank. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way, just about everyone in this hobby has at one time ir the other.

Get a refractometer, RODI unit and good test kits. Stay away from API test kits, they are hard to read and can be inaccurate. Take a sample of tank water to your LFS to see if your test kits are giving you the correct readings. Get your water parameters in check and keep them there. Never make a lot of changes to your tank in a short amount if time. Saltwater creatures like stability, no drastic water parameter swings.

Read every sticky in the New to the Hobby section. Then when you're done reading, read them again. There is some truly good info there by some experienced reefers and even some scientists. Go to the main page of Reef Central and search for articles from Reefkeeping Magazine, there are articles on just about every subject you could think of and they are written by experts in the field.

Wow!!! That's basically the whole summer with a fishless tank.
Man, I'm sorry to here this, you just finished your cycle not to long ago, that sucks.
