57 starphire rimless sps dominated build of a century!

I took everyone's advice and removed the foam. Not easy when the heavy tank is on top if it and your by yourself haha.

I get the substrate tomorrow. I will be putting that in and maybe start my rock work not sure. I am going to Vegas so unfortunately I wont be able to do any work on it this weekend.

Looks good so far.

I think you are going to regret mounting your double BRS reactors on that back wall. It's going to be a bear getting down in there and unscrewing those chambers. Not to mention all the water you will drip down behind the sump getting them out. Do yourself a favor now and make those more accessible in your sump.

Very good point. My reactor is in the front and I have a hard time with it. I guess it's the limited space I have to work with. Someday I'll post a picture of my set up.

Hey danschargers great equipment list. I'm in the same boat as well, working with limited space under a 3' stand. Subscribed

+1 or relocating the BRS reactors.
I find it easier to disconnect the plumbing and unscrew the chambers over the sink.....did I mention I hate them reactors?

Also, you might like the idea of installing magnetic switch for those lights. It turns them ON when you open the stand door.
It sure makes it easier if you don't have to look for that ON/Off switch every time you want to do something inside your stand.

I dont think I will have a difficult time with it at all. Remember this is a steal stand with wood panels on all 4 sides. From the pictures it is kinda an illusion with the depth. From the side I actually have plenty of room to access the reactor. There is about a 4 inch gap between the wall and the stand... this allows my hand to easily reach in or clean up any water spillage.

There will be no "doors" but rather panels that will be completely removable.

This switch can be installed on the panel just as easily.
The idea is to have the lights ON inside your stand the minute you open/remove/slide the panel.

hrmm I will have to look into this I thought there would have to be a wired connected to the panel, but if there is no wire then I definitely want to do that.
Thanks for the info!

The wired part gets attached to the steel stand ( in your case ) and the magnet shown in the foreground of the pic I posted mounts to the panel.

These switches are used for home security systems.

I added the sand today and did my rock work. For substrate I went with Tropic Eden mini reef flakes. They look amazing. For my rock I went with BRS Pukani dry rock. I am very pro DSB always will use DSB in every tank. I know flow will be high but these flakes seem perfect for it.

I went with the 2 island approach. Rather simple I thought, not too much, not too little. May change later but as of now I am happy with it.

@Snootch I just read your build thread its pretty epic. Nice LED I looks awesome!

I have the tank filled with water and just put in my salt. I started the mp40 for the first time and this guy is loud. I made sure to set the pin spacer at 1/2inch and I it sounds as if its rumbling... is this normal? I just turned my mp10 to full blast and it was quite compared to this. What do you guys think?

I might turn it back in for a another mp10 if this is the case.

The 40's are pretty loud, but if its rumbling its because it isn't perfectly aligned, rotate the wet side around slowly until the rumbling stops

I originally purchased MP10 for my tank but the 1/2" glass was to thick for the dry side to stay on. It was exchanged for a MP40 after 2 days.
I run it at 60 % Reef Crest mode and it's not what would consider loud ( can't hear it sitting on the couch 5 ft away ) it's still the loudest pump in my system.
I don't hear any rumbling, just the motor spinning up.
The only time I can say it's dead quiet is when in night mode or Off....lol

+1 mine was making that same rumbling noise but figured out that the alignment was a little off. Now it's quiet.

It seems to have quieted down a little now. The tank is now filled with water, I added salt. I am using instant ocean reef crystals. I used Dr.Tims one and only instant cycle. Will be waiting a week to change over my skimmer from the old tank to the new one, same with my lighting. Will post some pictures once I get the insane wire mess taken care of.

Thanks for all the input on the mp40's!
