57g Illuminata build... feedback/opinions/thoughts please!

Nice set-up. I'm looking at the 75 deep blue rimless and have a similar set-up in mind as you have. I really like your sump. Its one of the best I've found. I can't decide on a DIY or biting the bullet and getting a trigger systems. Did you consider a DIY, and are there any other companies that make similar sumps? Aside from going full custom, they have some of the best layouts if you are not going the wet-dry route. Looking forward to seeing this one pan out. Best of luck with everything!

Never considered a DIY, I would def recommend as trigger systems. The design is awesome IMO and for the extra cash it is way nicer than anything I could have thrown together

Finally some new pics! Sorry I have been neglecting my thread! ;)

Added ~30 dwarf ceriths and a couple blue legged hermits to help clean up some of my first GHA bloom

Everything underneath is running well

QT is up and running... 1 ocellaris clown and 1 yellowtail damsel (he's a bit shy) Also, any suggestions on names are welcome

Also, have added a copperband butterfly and a hammer coral

The copperband and hammer have only been in the tank overnight, found the sweetest LFS around the corner from my house can't wait to go xmas shopping! I'll put up a FTS and an update on my fuge later tonight!

looking good, let us know if they butterfly works out in your tank. i thought they picked at corals. congrats on your first saltwater build. just when you think your tank is perfect, something will always come up (but that's what makes the hobby so fun).

Well, jgalvin managed to jinx me! lost the copperband after 4 days to some kind of bacterial infection. I did pick up this sweet little zoa, pretty sure it's Eagle Eye can anyone confirm?

err sorry about that. i just bought a glass top from oceanic for my illuminata (arrives wed), every time i said everything was good, a fish would jump out :-( sorry to hear about your fish.

meh, I was probably in over my head going with a butterfly anyways. Also made me realize that I would rather focus on coral for this tank. Where did you manage to find a top? you should post some pics of how it looks after you get, would be interested to check it out.

Nice tank!

I'm just ordered the same one, should get it in a month or so In the meantime, I was going to build a stand for it. I know the dimensions are 36x18x21, but what is the length, width, and height of the black border on the bottom of the tank?

Thanks,
Paul

i've lost my share of corals as well :-(

I will post pics of the glass top for the illuminata this weeekend (my LFS called yesterday that it has arrived), i couldn't find anything on the top other than on the oceanic site. i also bought clear plastic mesh from a fellow reefer so going to constuct the mesh top as well (you'll see many with that) and choose with of the two works best (maybe glass in winter, mesh in summer since i don't have a chiller). If it just ruins the look of the open top, i'll just continue to risk the loss of fish carpet surfinig. BTW, got the glass top for $39 from my LFS duing a 20% everything off sale (the illuminata top retails for $49).

Don't have too much to update on, but I've noticed the hammer has started to grow and open up more since I started dosing kalk through my ATO ~2 weeks ago. Had to scrap a tiny aipstasia off the side of my glass last night. Other than that not much going on, planning on a couple new corals after xmas... probably at least one piece of SPS to see how it handles being under a single kessil. Here's a few updated full tank shots.

looking good! how many times have you re aquascaped the tank haha

Thanks, more times than I can remember in the first week but haven't really touched it too much since.. I'm pretty happy with it now. I did try and change up the angles of the pics a little bit so maybe is just looks like I've rescaped since the last pics?
