6 Line

I hear they are reef safe but I've heard a few stories of them picking at things...should I get one? I don't want it to eat all my softies.

I've had a few of them and they never picked at corals. They will eat worms, pods etc in your system quite voraciously though. They can also be aggressive towards other wrasses. Overall, I really enjoy this fish though.

out of all the fish ive owned this has got to be the most painintheass fish ive ever had. it will bully any new fish that it takes a dislike to, sometimes ones that are a lot bigger than itself. whether that is across the board or just mine i dont know.

The only fish my six-line has bullied is another wrasse. If you want other wrasses skip this guy. If you have no plans for other wrasses then I highly recommend the six-line. I think they're very pretty and mine has great personality. Not a picker of corals or clams but definitely a pod and worm eater to the max. An active swimmer and feeder with good colors, pretty much what people look for in fish I think.

mine is not a problem at all. worst thing about it is you rarely ever see it. It hides in the rocks a lot.

I have 2 in seperate tanks. They can be a pain to other wrasse and will stand their ground so to speak with pseudos etc, but I haven't had any real issues. Very useful pest eating fish if you have coral and clams. Both mine survived a hurricane, no power, tank moves etc so tough and pretty. I know some guys have trouble with these fish but i love mine for activity and personality.

+1. I kept one and it was fine for about a year and then started in on several of my other existing fish and forget about adding any smaller or more passive fish, this little monster was a complete PITA. Do a search in just about any thread on a six line and you will read horror stories, too many to count. Other folks never have a problem with this fish but I will never own another.

Don't do it! I had a 12 line and even though he was the last in my tank...he pestered a few of my fish...caused my Scissortail to carpet surf and die and my Smith's Blenny to hide for days. Took me 4 days to trap him to get him out of there.
Luckily in time to save my blenny.
But don't do it if you have peaceful fish.

I know 12 lines and 6 lines aren't the same fish, but from what I understand personality is similiar.

It is my understanding that all of the "lined" wrasses can exhibit this behavior.

Ditto - mine was fine for a year and then turned into a little demon.

mine was one of the "good" ones. I had it with an orchid dottyback, blennies, seahorses, leaf fish. it never bothered other fish, even when they were added after. it was out a lot. I have it for years, until finding it on the floor one day. It was a great little fish, very pretty and active.

I've had mine for 3+ years now.

No problems with clowns, goby, blenny, or anthias.

He does go after my green mandarin sometimes though. He will only attack if the mandarin tries to climb up high on the rocks.
