6 Month Old 24Gal Nano Cube

Can someone de-bunk this rumor for me please....On a stock Nano Cube Deluxe (only upgraded powerhead to a maxi-jet 1200). Will SPS corals survive at or near the top? I've gotten yes and no's, but everything i've read just about says no.

Second I have some white stuff form over the purple coraline and can't figure out why. Water is in check and i add iodine, calcium, and trace elements. Anyone have any ideas?

It is most likely the coraline bleaching as for sps You can but I dont recomend it if you do the colors will not stay very nice.

Most likely they will survive, but they will brown out on you.

Monitpora will probably be your best bet for long term success.

SPS will most likely NOT survive and if you CAN keep it alive it will lose it's color. The white stuff is probably coralline dieoff probably from dosing your tank unnecessarily. I DO agree that if you have a chance at keeping SPS, monitpora capricornus is your best shot.

I highly recommend that you stop dosing your tank if you are not measuring what you are plunking in there. Iodine is toxic at high levels. In fact, we use it in the OR to kill bacteria prior to surgery. Unless you know what all three levels of iodine are in your tank, i.e., iodide, free iodine and iodate, I'd recommend that you stop. Also, adding trace elements is simply going to foster an algae bloom. Recommendations:

1) Don't dose what you don't test for.
2) If you do dose, have a reason why, measure before and after levels and understand toxicity levels
3) Regular and consistent water changes with a good sea salt should replenish everything needed in a tank that is a mere 30 gallons and under.
