6 months of Diatoms

Guys when I set up my new 190 gallon tank I used my old live rock from my 135 but replaced the sand as it was around 2 years old. I have had nothing but problems out of this sand the entire time it has been in here. I have had diatoms spin e about 2 weeks in that will not go away. I have gravel vac it and hand stirred it. Even left it alone for 2 months to see if that would help. I can gravel vac it and wishing 6 hours I see a light dusting back on the sand. The rocks have no visible diatoms. I am 100 percent sure it is not dinoflagellates. Anybody have any suggestions. It is really starting to pi$$ me off.

Parameters are here

Alk 8.5 Hanna
Calcium 420 Hanna
Magnesium 1380 salifert
Po4 .026 Hanna
Nitrates around 5ppm. Maybe less hard to tell with the Red Sea test

Have a huge skimmer that pulls out nasty gunk and a good amount of flow. Any ideas would be appreciated. A;most to the point of syphoning it out and starting over. It is Carib sea 2mm special grade. Bought it as a live version. Thanks.

All normal man. My Real Reef Rock brand of rock looks like the surface of Mars. Went from purple to a poop brown. It sucks! My sand has some dusting of Diatoms as well, I use the Carib Sea special grade dry version. Run Carbon and keep up with water changes. Get your self some snails as well. Keep an eye on your lights. Make sure you use RO/DI water. It will pass.

Just never had an issue like this sand though. I have had diatoms before that come and go within a few months but holy god these things will not go away. I run gac as well as Rowaphos. I don't over feed the tank just hard to believe it would last this long. Lights are 4 ai hydra 52s that run for a 8.5 hour photoperiod. Would you keep using the gravel vac or leave it alone. Forgo to mention depth is 2 inches hear and there maybe a little more or less in places.

Read both. Was interesting but really did not explain why I would have diatoms for 6 months. I'll leave the sand alone and let it do its thing.

Stop stirring your sand and your diatoms will go away on their own. Every time you stir your sand to clean the sandbed you are releasing silicates which are feeding your diatoms.
